Florence Middle Maker Space
Provides an opportunity to EXPLORE, CREATE and INNOVATE
Why do we need a Maker Space?
"The world has changed and doesn't reward compliance and cookie cutting. We want makers not memorizers, creators not consumers." -- Dave Burgess, Author of Teach Like a Pirate
Cubelets are used by a group of Ms. Murphy's students. The Cubelets allow students to explore WHY and HOW. Based on how the Cubelets are connected, they will light up, respond to touch, or move in a particular direction. Cubelets are a great tool for science, math, literacy, robotics, coding, engineering and life science activities.
What are the Little Bits these boys are so interested in?
They may not realize it, but they are dabbling in engineering concepts as they snap "new age" legos together. Each piece represents various electronic components and allows students to explore hands-on what they are typically only able to read about.

Imagination, creativity...and photo fun with App Smashing!
Ms. Christy's class uses the green screen to make the far-off places they study in 8th grade World History come to life! The students stand in front of the green screen, take a photo, and then use software to put their image in front of anywhere they want to be!
Ozobot - It's Your Move
Teachers learn from each other -- and even from students!
Our Maker Space is more than just technology...
In a Maker Space, students are given the opportunity to work together, collaborate, share, and design. They are also able to explore a more creative side through arts and craft materials. There are also board games and puzzles that allow students to have fun and compete in ways many of us did not so long ago!
