The Tiger Times
Week of January 15 through January 19
Hello Tiger Family!
Happy Middle of the 3 Day Weekend!!
Yesterday our community partner, 121 Community Church, brought over 100 volunteers to help do some much needed spring cleaning around our school. We accomplished so much from cleaning out closets, to raking leaves, fixing broken gates, taking down and putting up bulletin boards and even tackling the mountain of coats we've acquired!! It was awesome to see so many people that have a passion for our school like we do. As you go out to recess next week, look around - you'll be surprised at how many things got tackled for us!
You may not have heard but one of our Tigers had to be hospitalized at the end of last week due to complications from the flu. When I last spoke to her mom, she had stabilized and had been moved from ICU with the hope that she will be released today. The father of another of our student's parents was hospitalized for the flu as well. We know that our being at school is a critical part of our students' success; as good as our guest teachers are, they are not you. With that said, I want to take a minute to remind you to please take care of yourselves. Our jobs are very high stress and this coupled with the fact that we tend to take care of everyone else's needs before our own puts us at risk for getting sick. You can't take care of all those people you love and care about if you're sick so rest, wash your hands like crazy, and know Timberline isn't Timberline without each and everyone of you.
I'm so blessed and blissed to be your principal,
Shelley

Nuts and Bolts is our "virtual faculty meeting". Please read all information carefully and reach out if you have any questions or need clarification.
Please read carefully as there is information that requires actions on your part this week.
The district has received a rather larger number of Open Records requests which includes any emails you've sent or texts you've sent/received. At my administration PLC this past Wednesday, we were reminded again to be mindful of what how we communicate information about our students as things written can be misunderstood without the context of a conversation.
Amy Howard, Director of Health Services, spoke at length about flu and high rates of student absences. She stated that an important way to reduce illness and associated absences is to wipe down student desks daily.
Students will lead the Sharpening the Saw Club Days presentation for Symposium . There will be several spots available and any student in grades PreK-5 can apply. To apply, students will create a flip grid that includes the following: What is Sharpen the Saw day? What do you do on Sharpen the Saw day? What do you like about Sharpen the Saw Day?
- The link to submit is found here. Or students can use this code: fc4ac1
- We'll talk about this during the announcements but it will be helpful for your students to hear it from you.
- Flipgrid applications must be in by Friday, Jan. 19th
Be sure to see the classroom greeter challenge above !
"Principal Points" is an email sent each Friday from the district that contains information for principals to share with parents, staff or both. I've just been including it as a part of our Nuts and Bolts but thought it would be helpful if it was in its own section. I wanted you to be able to distinguish between things that reference us specifically vs. things that are shared with all district employees. Hope this is helpful!Staff and Student iPads
January is School Board Recognition Month, a great time to focus on the crucial role an elected board of trustees plays in our communities and schools! Our theme this year is "Helping Kids Soar to Success." Our campuses have always done a great job in expressing appreciation through notes and posters. You may deliver and decorate the board room with these mementos on Friday, January 19, and Monday, January 22. The School Board Meeting is January 22, 7 p.m. Let's show our school board how much they are appreciated! **As in years past, I will have a poster to each grade level Tuesday morning with a specific board member to commemorate. Your grade can create the poster in any way you'd like. If the team has a burning passion for doing something other than a poster, feel free to do that instead! I need all posters or other grade level items by 3:30 Friday so that I can go to admin to get them put up.
Digital Citizenship Week: We are in the midst of Digital Citizenship Week January 9 - 19, 2018. All our GCISD Digital Citizenship resources may be found here .
