Bridging the Math Gap Between School and Home (Kindergarten—Grade 2)
In this training, participants will learn how to help their child by bridging the math concepts taught in school to home life. Hands-on activities will be used to show how math is being learned in the classroom. The math will focus on developing number sense.

Understanding Your Child’s Full and Individual Evaluation (FIE)
The Full and Individual Evaluation (FIE) paints a picture of your child’s current strengths and needs as they relate to all aspects of their education. The FIE drives your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). In this training, we will explore the types of information presented in the FIE and what the information means for your child’s education and related educational planning of special education services.

What Parents Need to Know About Human Trafficking
Note: Children ages 8+ are able to attend this training with their family.
In this training, parents will learn what traffickers look for and how they approach victims. Myths versus facts will be discussed about human trafficking in the United States along with how trafficking happens, who it happens to and who are the victims. You will learn the signs that indicate your child may be in danger and how traffickers target youth at school and in any home.

Parents will learn requirements needed for students receiving special education services in Texas to graduate. In this training, we will take an in-depth look at the law and cover the graduation plans Texas currently has in place to graduate from high school.

Six Easy Ways to Support Your Child’s Literacy Development, All Grades
This training will focus on six fun and easy ways to support your child’s literacy development. Participants will discover the various components of reading and writing, investigate research-based reading and writing strategies that can be easily practiced at home and school, and will actively participate in creating activities to align with each strategy. Participants should be ready to have some fun, interact with other parents, and get crafty! All materials will be provided.

Finding Answers about Special Education Law and Regulations
This training will provide an exploration of several websites that contain resources regarding the rights and responsibilities of stakeholders in Special Education. These websites contain information regarding eligibility for services, legal references and materials outlining the dispute process when schools and parents cannot reach an agreement in an ARD Committee meeting. This training will familiarize parents with these sites, explore some of the content and demonstrate how to use some of the reference materials provided.

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention for Parents & Caregivers: Sharing strategies from your child’s school that you can use at home.
This training provides parents and caregivers with an overview of the concepts and strategies taught in the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training program used by schools that can help in the continuity of support and care. This training will provide parents with insights into behavior patterns of their children and an action plan with immediate strategies. Please note that this training will not include physical restraint strategies.
