Happy Fall!
It is hard to believe that we have been in school for almost six weeks. September is definitely flying by. Even though it is still hot outside, there are some fun things planned for fall. We have an author's visit planned for 4th grade and a school performance in the works after Thanksgiving break. Stay tuned for more information.
A couple of things to note
1. Complete the LVISD Volunteer Form Here and return the form to the school.
2. Student Holiday October 10th and 11th
3. Be on the lookout for parent/teacher conference sign up from your child's homeroom teacher
M.A.P. Testing
This year our students in 4th and 5th grade are taking the M.A.P. test. This is a computerized test that measures academic progress (MAP) three times a year. It is an adaptive test that is designed to help teachers, parents, and administrators to improve learning for all students and assist them in making informed educational decisions. It lets a teacher see a child’s strengths and areas of growth.
DO ALL STUDENTS IN THE SAME GRADE TAKE THE SAME TEST?
No. This assessment is designed to target a student’s academic performance. These tests are tailored to an individual’s current achievement level. This gives each student an opportunity to show what he or she knows and can do. Because the computer adjusts the difficulty of the questions as the test progresses, each student takes a unique test. With this type of unique test, teachers are better able to measure individual student growth throughout the course of the school year and determine where each student may need additional instruction.
LVIS T-Shirts for Sale
We have a few extra LVIS spirit shirts left. If you would like to purchase a student shirt, students can bring $13 cash or check to the office.
Parent Conferences
Families, be on the lookout for parent teacher conference sign up. Teachers will be conducting parent teacher conferences in October and November. The purpose of parent teacher conference is to review your child's academic data. We look at STAAR data, beginning of the year assessments, and reading levels. Teachers will also review classroom observations and answer any questions you may have about school. These are 15 minute meetings and intended to give you a snapshot of your child's development.
Parent Communication
We have amazing teachers at LVIS. If you have a question or would like to discuss your child, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher via email. They are happy to meet with you during their conference period.
Also, be on the lookout for a weekly newsletter every Monday from your child's homeroom teacher with important information and dates.

Room Parents Wanted!
As we return back to normal, we will be welcoming room parents back this year. A room mom or dad’s main task is to facilitate communication between other parents and the teacher. They help with organizing class parties, celebrations, field trips, etc. They will meet with the teacher and schedule some dates on the calendar. If you are interested in being a room parent, please be on the lookout for more information coming from your child’s teacher.
Also, don’t forget to complete the volunteer application. The form is available here.
