MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great holiday break with their friends and families and is ready for a great start to 2024. In 2023, students achieved so much, and I am so proud of their efforts. In this edition of One Mount Vernon, you will find a catalog of the many great developments with our students and throughout our District.
I am excited to see the wonderful accomplishments our scholars have this year and the ways that educators throughout the Mount Vernon City School District step up to support them. My resolution for this year is to commit to the daily learning of Mount Vernon scholars, and I encourage everyone to take this resolution with me.
On the last episode of Conversations with Dr. Kim, I had the pleasure of hosting five new principals who have been doing great jobs at their new schools. Dr. Christopher Pearce, Dr. Melissa White, Troy Newbey, Barbara Abbey and Andrea Thomas have all been diligently working to introduce and lead new initiatives, reinforce the culture and make learning fun at their schools.
In our continuous effort to partner with parents, we hosted our first Parent Technology Help Desk support session this Thursday. The help desk support sessions will be held every Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m., and we encourage parents to sign up for assistance. Being involved with your children’s education and supporting them through the years can give them an advantage academically and help them be successful in life.
My condolences go out to the family of Melody Dream Bell, who we tragically lost in December. I am also sending my heartfelt thoughts to her friends, classmates and the entire Pre-K 3 program as they mourn this loss. To see her pictures, memories, and join in the remembrance, please visit the following link.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
