Week of January 13, 2020

Dear Amazing Bennett Families,

Welcome back to school! We are back in the swing of amazing teaching at learning at the BEST school in McKinney. Our school family is also excited to welcome 15 new Bennett BEAR students to our school this past week. It's always exciting returning to school after break, catching up with friends and staff, as well as, meeting and welcoming new friends to our class and school family. We will see YOU at school.

Proud to be a BEAR,

5th Grade Avid Information for Middle School - Due January 15th

Middle School registration is around the corner, and one of the exciting things about middle school is choosing electives. One elective that will be offered is called AVID, which requires a nomination from the elementary school and an interview.

The school counselor introduced the AVID elective to all 5th grade students last Friday, after lunch and the brochure below was sent home. The brochure provides a brief overview of what the AVID elective is, who is eligible for the class, and an AVID Elective interest slip.

If your student is interested in the AVID elective, please complete the information on the interest slip, cut it out, and bring it to school by next Wednesday, January 15th.

Please contact Mrs. Thompson, if you want more information:

Christie Thompson's Update from Principal's Coffee

Friday’s Principal’s Coffee was very informative, and we learned tons from Office Mo about social media and responsible cell phone usage. A parent requested some reading material, so I wanted to share these two children’s books with everyone:

  • Cell Phoney by Julia Cook (focuses on cell phone responsibility and using good judgement)

  • The Technology Tail by Julia Cook (helps students navigate the fast-changing digital age, reinforcing online safety, kindness, and respect)

I’ve also attached a Technology Contract that you could use with your child. *Don’t forget to add the consequence at the bottom of the form!

Warm regards,

Christie N. Thompson
