AP Class Information
Poway High School 2021-22
What is AP?
The Advanced Placement Program® (AP) enables willing and academically prepared students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school.
The program consists of college-level courses developed by the AP Program that high schools can choose to offer, and corresponding exams that are administered once a year.
- Each AP course is modeled on a comparable introductory college course in the subject. Learn how AP courses are developed.
- Each course culminates in a standardized college-level assessment, or AP Exam.
- AP Exams are given in May each year at testing locations all over the world.
- Schools must be authorized by the AP Course Audit to offer approved AP courses and use the AP designation.
AP Agreement
Please choose AP classes carefully. AP classes are a year long commitment and once an AP class has been requested, student/parent requests to drop or change the class are not guaranteed to be honored. The AP Agreement must be signed and turned in before enrollment in an AP course.

This is the same login you use to access your AP scores, PSAT/NMSQT scores, or register for the SAT—or that you used to access My AP last year. If you’ve never had a College Board account, you can create one via the Sign Up link.
- Choose to join a course. Click the Join a Course or Exam button.
- Enter your join code. Enter the join code your teacher gave you and click Submit.
- Check the course information. Make sure the information that comes up is for the course you are taking. If it is, click Yes.
- Fill out registration information. If this is your first time joining a class, you’ll need to provide some additional information. You only have to do this once.

When are AP Scores Released?
Scores become available in July. Some scores take longer to process due to later testing or other circumstances (e.g., late arrival of testing materials or extra time needed to match records). If students don’t receive them by Sept. 1, have them contact AP Services.
How do I get my AP Scores?
College Board Account
To retrieve your AP Exam Scores, you will need to use the same College Board account that was used to sign up for the exams.
If you have trouble accessing an account, you can troubleshoot the problems using the College Board Help Site: https://pages.collegeboard.org/account-help
Retrieving AP Scores
You will receive more information on accessing scores when you get your AP Exam Pack. Be sure to keep that information for when you will get the scores in July.
Helpful Tips
- Students must use their College Board account in order to access their AP scores online at apscore.org.
- If they’ve forgotten their username or password, they can recover them.
- Students shouldn’t create a new account if they already have one. Duplicate accounts can cause delays in getting AP scores. They should sign in with the same account they used to register and enroll in AP class sections.
- If a student changes their email address, it’s important that they update it in their account.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will colleges see my AP score?
It depends. Any colleges you selected to receive your scores in the information section on your exam will see your scores. If you want to add a college after the exam, you can do so through your College Board account. If you filled out the portion of the AP Exam that grants College Board permission to send your information to colleges and scholarship programs, they may send you promotional materials intended for recruitment, but your specific scores will not be reported to those colleges.
What is a good AP Score?
AP exams are scored on a scale of 1 to 5. A score of 5, meaning the student is extremely well qualified to receive college credit for that course, is the highest score. A score of 4 means the student is well qualified and a score of 3 indicates that the student is qualified. Colleges prefer different scores, so if you are looking to send the scores to a college, check their preferences first.
Will a good AP Score make me graduate college early?
Once again, this will depend on the college. Some schools will take an AP exam score and apply it as credit for the class. Some schools will say it meets the credit for a specific class, but still require another class to meet that requirement. And, some schools do not take AP credits. It is a good idea to research your desired colleges to find out what kind of credits you can earn.
