A Message from the Director
Greetings Dream Team-
We Are Almost There - Poem by Guinevere Eveleigh
Hold my hand
We are almost there
Don't stop running
We are almost there
Though the sweat burns our faith
And our muscles are wasting away
Though the sun scorch our skin
And the rain drown our ecstasy
If the snow freeze our dreams
And the lightning frightens our determination
And the thunder quiver our morality
We must never stop running
We must never stop hoping
We must never be shattered
Hold my hand
Even though you're weak
Don't stop running
We are almost there
It seems simple to give in at this point in the year---DON'T! Scholars deserve to be pushed to new heights. You deserve to reap the benefits of holding scholars to high expectations until the end! Don't Stop, we are almost there!
The Dream Team Will Fight!
Sincerely,
Director Parks

Mrs. Jackson Says....
Greetings Dream Team!
I have had several conversations with scholars over the past week about the pressure and stress they’re feeling in school. The pressure they feel should be motivating enough to get things done and should help prepare them for the future. However, when you see your scholars shutting down or acting out due to stress, it may be time to remind them to take care of their mental health as they are working towards their future. Here are five tips for helping scholars with stress management:
1) Check-In – Take a moment to ask your class or pull a few scholars to the side to ask how they are handling all of their responsibilities from home and school. This helps our scholars know that you are aware of how much of an adjustment middle school can be and that you care about their well-being.
2) Provide Organization/Time-Management Tips: In middle school, scholars are given planners and told exactly how they should organize their work. They still need to be reminded how to manage their assignments and activities, and they should regularly evaluate if their system is working.
3) Laugh in class – I’ve walked by classrooms several times and heard laughter instead of a lecture. Yes, you should make the most of your instructional time. However, taking a moment to share a funny story or joke helps to break up the pressure and release endorphins to improve mood.
4) Encourage healthy eating and sleeping habits: Food is fuel for the body and sleep is fuel for the brain. Ask your first period class if they’ve eaten breakfast and remind your last period to turn off their technology at night to get a good night’s rest.
5) Practice what you preach: Teaching can be stressful, so be sure to take care of yourself and share with your scholars how you do it. Life will always have something to stress about. How do you disconnect from work to help you re-charge and be more efficient?
6) (BONUS) – Try a mindfulness moment every once in a while. Here is this week’s mindfulness activity:
Have a great week! You all are amazing! 😊
Best,
Kelsi Jackson
