What does Standard- Aligned Lessons Look Like?
Teachers know their curriculum, design relevant, purposeful lessons aligned to state standards, and communicate learning outcomes to students.
How can we achieve this at Rocky River?
This year we are more prepared than ever to achieve standard- aligned lessons! With the help of teacher leaders throughout the district, we have developed our MGSD Pacing Guides for each grade level. Remember- this is our "foundation" of learning. Each teacher has his/her own techniques to add to that.
Tech Tools
There are plenty of tools that align to the NC Standards. Here are a few:
- Discovery Education: This resource has multiple tech books according to grade level and state standards. At the elementary level, we have a subscription to the Science Techbook. This provides units of content for students to participate in, as well as checkpoints/ review questions. There are also STEM activities for those who want to elaborate on a particular concept.
- Discovery Education Streaming also has a Common Core in the Classroom tab, that allows teachers to search for ELA and Math concepts through the standards.
- Tenmarks: There are two sides to Tenmarks, and both provide math materials that are standards- aligned. Teachers can use "Smartboard-like" pre-made lessons, that provide slides for common misconceptions, warmup activities, focus lessons, and extensions. There is also a assignments side, which is used to assign work to students on particular standards. The great piece to this tool is the extra "reflection" students have for remediation after a certain assignment.
- Storia: This online ebook collection is more than just a collection of books. Teachers can make their own selections of books for students to read, and search by standards.
*** If you, or a teammate, is planning on using any of these listed tools, please consider writing it in on our Monthly Sharing Calendar so that others can stop in and take a peek!***

Check out the video below from Mrs. Morrison's classroom as they CREATE using text features, Scholastic News, and Thinglink.

Linking standards.
Worried that you can't find some more resources that link to the Common Core Standards, at your students level, well just ask Jessica Seto how you can do this!! If not, Ms. Jayne would be happy to show you.
S.O.S. Strategies
We have discussed this resource before, but this is a great quick reference to 100 of these strategies. *Make sure to log into Discovery Ed before, so that you can access them.
