MSC Visitor Entrance Remodeling Underway
MSC's entryway is now closed due to remodeling to modify how visitors enter the building. This project will take 3-4 weeks and will alter the process for entering the building. All visitors will need to enter through the doors adjacent to the parking lot. Visitors must call the office at 614-836-4957 (number will posted on the doors) and have an ID to enter the building. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your patience until our entryway is completed. Modifications will improve the overall level of security for students and staff.
MSC Receives 3 Star Rating on State Report Card
News and Notes
State Report Card - MSC received a 3 star rating and earned a 61% on the State Report Card Performance Index. We are meeting state expectations, but still have work to do. MSC did have the highest performance index score of all secondary schools in the district. Students and staff will continue to work to improve and grow!
iReady Update - 86% of all completed reading lessons were passed by our students last week while 88% of all completed math lessons were passed. Students continue to work hard. iReady lessons are completed during Focus classes (1st period).
Accelerated Reader (AR) - All students are provided time in Focus classes to read independently and are expected to maintain reading logs and pass comprehension quizzes after completing books. We believe this time dedicated to reading is very important, so please check in with your student about his/her reading log to see what they are reading!
SEL Classes: Mr. Brown (principal) will be visiting classes the next few weeks to discuss compassion and empathy with students and how it impacts the day to day experience for everyone at MSC, including adults. So far, classes have been highly attentive and engaged!
Chromebooks - Students, especially 6th graders, need to get into the habit of charging chromebooks at home and bringing them charged every day. Please check with your student to make sure they are charging their devices. Thank you in advance!
Free/Reduced Lunch - Parents are strongly encouraged to apply for free/reduced lunch. This must be done each year and does not carry over from year to year. Applications can be found here (https://www.gocruisers.org/PaySchools.aspx). Families who qualify for reduced lunches will be provided lunches at no cost as well. It is definitely worth the time to complete the application to see if you qualify.
Vaping: There are students who are bringing vape pens to the building, which is prohibited. I have encouraged students to report anonymously when they see students vape. 1st offense for vaping will be a day in AC to complete a course on the dangers associated with vaping. Discipline then gets much more harsh if there are repeat offenses. Students who distribute or sell vape pens will be disciplined strictly according to the district code of conduct.
Final Forms - Please complete all required forms Final Forms so we can have all required student information for this school year. Requests and links can be find your email.
Progress Book - Please check out the tutorials below to set up access to your students grades and assigned work. Parents can set up alerts to get notifications when students have missing work or earn grades that are subpar.
PBIS Rewards - Every student has access to a their PBIS (positive behavior intervention supports) Rewards account to track points being earned from teachers and staff for being productive, respectful, and safe throughout the course of the day. Points will be cumulate and can be used for purchases in our school store.
Digital Hall Passes - MSC uses a digital hall pass system for students to request bathroom passes and other passes that require them to leave classrooms. This tool will also be used to track how many passes are used and how much class time is being missed.
Questions or concerns? - Feel free to call 614-836-4957 or email john.brown@gocruisers.org with any questions or concerns regarding school or student issues.
