Everett Weekly 2.10.23

February 10, 2023
Happy Friday!
Woo hoo!!! I'm off this weekend to visit my daughter at Purdue! I couldn't be more excited to unplug a little and just be a BOILERMAKER! The highlight of the weekend for me will be taking Hailey and her friends out to dinner Saturday evening. As the mom of a female mechanical engineering student, I giggle at how most of her friends are boys. Conversation at dinner typically ranges from the creation of the obligatory boilermaker hammer they all make in freshman year, Legos, Minecraft, and AmongUs :) It's actually amazing, and it reminds me of how we need to push past stereotypes and labels and remember to celebrate each other for our talents, gifts, and passions. I vow to support a learning environment where we honor the beauty in discovering who we are in this world and one in which we inspire the geniuses in all of us!
Boiler Up,
Renée

Multicultural Family Night
All D67 Families are Invited to Highlight Your Heritage on March 8
In honor of World Language Week, we invite all District families to join us at Deer Path Middle School on Wednesday, March 8 at 6:00 PM, for a night to travel around the globe and visit the different cultures that D67 represents. We are looking for families or groups who are willing to set up a table and make a poster board to share your heritage. Please respond on this Google form if you would like to participate.
Questions? Please contact Vail Kieser, Director of Teaching and Learning, vkieser@lfschools.net.
To Do
Please remind your children of the expectations in our Responsible Use Agreement:
Many smartwatches have similar capabilities to smartphones (game, voice, and text capabilities). If a smartwatch becomes a distraction, it may be confiscated and placed in the office to remove the distraction from the learning environment. Essentially, we will treat the smartwatch like a cell phone. Confiscated equipment may be picked up in the office at the end of the day by the student(s). If a pattern of distraction occurs, parents may be asked to pick up the technology.
Stop in to pick up any lost items you may have left at school. We will be donating items through a service learning project. Also, be sure to label all clothes and jackets and we will always return them to students' classrooms
Note that I am canceling the last two Fridays with Fitz (2/17 and 4/21) as attendance has been low. If you are interested in having a coffee with me, just email or text and I'm happy to set a date with you

More Bathroom News
We have had a situation where a student has scratched some inappropriate language in one of our bathroom stalls. We are working on repainting the stall but in the meantime, I encourage you to have a conversation with your students regarding the importance of keeping our school clean and free of graffiti. Our bathrooms have been an unfortunate source of my newsletter content recently. My apologies and hopes to not have to address them next week :)
