Principal's Report
A Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School East
A Word From Dr. Clune
It is hard to believe that Winter Break begins next week! The year 2020 is quickly coming to a close and I am very optimistic looking forward to 2021. I do hope everyone had an opportunity to spend time with their family during our snow day yesterday. It was a welcome break from our routines and the snow looks beautiful.
Please note that we will be virtual for the week of January 4th. 'In person' instruction and middle level sports are scheduled to begin the week of January 11th.
Please contact the main office if you have any questions or concerns.

Winter Sports
Boys/girls basketball and wrestling will begin on January 11. When winter sports finally begin, we must all do our part to make sure we can have a successful and safe winter season. Failure to follow safety guidelines can put our students, coaches, school, and community in danger, so it is imperative we are all doing our part to make sure that we have a safe winter sports season. The most significant change from the fall sports season will be the mask mandate. Athletes will now have to wear their masks at all times during a practice and a competition. In order to ensure the safety of all, this policy will be strictly enforced.

Nurse's Notes
SCOLIOSIS SCREENING: School law requires that a screening for scoliosis be performed on all children in grade 7. The Perkiomen Valley School District will conduct a scoliosis screening program beginning December 15, 2020. The purpose of the screening program is to detect possible curvature of the spine in children. If the condition is detected early and appropriately treated, progressive spinal deformity may be prevented. All grade 7 students are scheduled to be screened.
The screening test is very simple and can be performed in less than a minute. The school nurse will check your child’s back by observing it while your child is standing and bending forward. You will be contacted if there is any reason to have your child examined by your pediatrician, family physician, or orthopedist.
Your cooperation is essential to help us make the program run smoothly. If you have any objections to having your child participate in the screening program, please inform the school nurse in writing by December 14, 2020
.
HEALTH EXAMS: Please remember that 6th grade students require a physical examination and 7th grade students require a dental examination. If your child has had these examinations, please be sure to send a copy to the nurse's office. Forms are available on the PV website. Your cooperation with this is most appreciated!
Medications: If your child has been diagnosed with a life-threatening allergy, seizures or asthma and requires emergency medication, please be sure to bring the medication to school with the appropriate forms completed by the physician. Forms can be found on the PV website.
Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child. I can be reached at 610-409-8580 or emailed at tespersen@pvsd.org
