Comet Families,
Thank you to all the families that were able to attend our "Blast Off to Learning" family event this past Friday for rising Kindergarteners and preschool children in the community. It was a wonderful evening to meet some new Comet families and welcome younger siblings to Silver City! LSC Members for 2021-2022
We are looking to fill a couple of spots on our Local School Council (LSC) for the 2021-22 school year. If you are interested, please fill out this interest form by Friday, April 30.
Local School Councils (LSCs) are advisory bodies made up of parents, teachers, and community members that provide recommendations to the school principal and Forsyth County Board of Education. Councils meet at least four times a year.
Message from Nurse Kacey
The clinic is running very low on shorts and pants for both girls and boys of all sizes. If you have any pants that can be donated to us, we would greatly appreciate it! Also, please consider keeping a pair of clean clothes in your child's book bag. This is a good idea for all ages...as sometimes students get muddy at recess and need a change. Thanks!

21-22 Learning Environment Options Survey for ALL Students (UPDATED)
If you need the survey in Spanish, click here.
If you have any questions, please check out the District's webpage for more information and definitely check out our specific message for Silver City families to learn more.
Notes:
Virtual learning will be very similar to what students experienced this year, with at least 3-4 live, synchronous sessions each day where students will be required to log in and participate throughout each of those class periods.
Students will have a dedicated virtual teacher, but the teacher may not be from Silver City. Additionally, if you elect to change to in-person learning at school at the end of 1st semester, there is a very high chance that your child’s teacher will change in January.
Current 5th graders will complete the survey for the MIDDLE SCHOOL they will be attending next year.
Please email one of the administrators – Mr. Sloop, Ms. Carnes, or Ms. Fuchs –
if you have any questions about this survey or the learning options for next year.
SCES Book Fair - Teacher Wish Lists
Our book fair is going great so far! This is the last week for purchasing books! Remember if we run out of a book in-person, you can always shop our Book Fair homepage and purchase the books online!
Also, one tradition of the Book Fair is a Teacher Wish List. If you would like to support your child's teacher by adding quality literature to their classroom library, we have come up with two different options to assist in that:
Option 1: Send in an envelope clearly labeled with purpose of monies (Teacher's Name and "Book Donation for Classroom Library"). If there is any change left over, that money will be sent back home with your child.
Option 2: Purchase an eGift Card for your child's teacher by clicking HERE. The teacher will receive an email immediately following your purchase. They will be able to present this at the fair to purchase books.
Thank you so much for your support as we instill a love of literacy by using proceeds to further create literacy rich environments in our classrooms and media center.
Hero Squad (UPDATED)
Students can participate by sending in loose change or donations to our collection containers in the school lobby behind Ms. Meredith OR by logging on to their classroom page at Herosquad.org and donating securely online. Online, you will need to "Find Your School" and then "Join Your Classroom Team".
Remember, if you donate virtually, your child may be eligible for prizes directly from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. There will not be any prizes if you donate in person via the drop-off buckets or by turning in cash/checks to staff. Thanks for understanding!
Congratulations to APOLLO who is currently in the lead as the top shuttle with 1,650 points!!!
Mr. Sloop's Summer Spin (REPEAT)
Mr. Sloop's Summer Spin is coming! As part of our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program, students earn Comet Cash and can spend that cash every two weeks at our Comet Corner store. This year, we held a special Holiday Spin in December to amp up the fun for our students and it was a HUGE success! Ever since that event, they have been asking "when are we have another spin event with the prize wheel?"
We are excited to announce that our students will again have the opportunity to spend their Comet Cash in exchange for a spin on the prize wheel. Every spin is a win! To pull off this event, it takes LOTS of prizes, so we are asking for prize donations for our Summer Spin.
We have created a wish list of items below. All Oriental Trading items can be shipped directly to the school (Silver City ES, ATTN: Maleah Dickman, 6200 Dahlonega Hwy., Cumming, GA 30028). If you wish to purchase in person, we have also created a list of items that can be found at Five Below. These items can be dropped off at the front desk labeled with "Summer Spin".
We appreciate ALL donations and your help in making this an experience our students will not forget!
