The Cedar Ridge Weekly

Message from Dr. Ramirez
Hello CRHS Learning Community,
I hope your ice storm experience was mild. I've heard about how bad they can be in our area so we braced for it. I had the firewood ready to go, but turns out the fire was just for ambiance. We were a-okay with that!
As you know, Plan B begins this week with a gradual introduction of students on campus over the next few weeks. This week begins with 9th graders. On March 8, all Cohort A students (A-L last names) begin. On March 15, all Cohort B students (M-Z) begins. See this link for all of our schedules. For students who take the bus, we will be sending our bus route letters on Monday.
Monday and Tuesday are asynchronous days for all students. Monday is a staff orientation to review the new safety protocols. On Tuesday, all 11th grade students will be taking the ACT in person. Due to the social distancing requirements, nearly all of the CRHS staff are needed for testing administration.
When you break down our orientation schedule, all 10th- 12th grade students will only come in for 1 day. Only 9th grade students will come in twice. The purpose of our orientation is to train and prepare our students on the many changes we have in place on campus. We need to ensure that every one is aware of the changes and expectations. When student are not in orientation, they are to follow their schedules and work remotely.
I have included the new bell schedule below. Here is a snapshot of the biggest changes:
1. Time of day: 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
2. Shorter class periods.
3. Fridays - OCS has listed Fridays as asynchronous. At CRHS, however, will are requiring students to report to classes on Fridays. After attendance is taken, the teachers will either assign asynchronous work, check in with students, review lessons, provide small group tutoring, or combination of these tasks.
Once we fully begin plan B, our 100% remote students will do the following, depending on the teacher's plan:
1. Follow their regular schedules and learn alongside the in-person Cohorts at the same time.
2. Receive "mini-lessons" and then work offline
3. Receive a lesson that is entirely asynchronous.
4. A combination of the above.
Please contact teachers directly for more specifics. Most of our teachers will use a combination of methods for Fridays.
I am happy to report that we have received the final shipment of new Chromebooks! Students may come to trade in their old ones. Stay tuned for more information on our rollout plan.
May you all have an outstanding week.
With appreciation,
Dr. Ramirez

Dr. Ramirez
