Upcoming Events & Information for Pleasantdale Families
A Note from the Principal's Office
September 16, 2018
Dear PES Families,
So many great things continue to happen at PES-we are excited for your family to be part of our community!
- MAP Testing is being completed this week for all 1st-4th graders. Copies of student reports will be sent home Friday, October 5th.
- White Buffalo Playground completion has been delayed again. The Pleasant Dale Park District will let us know when they have an updated completion date. In the meantime, for your safety, the Park District has asked that no one cross the orange construction fence.
- Welcome to Paula Berger who has been hired as a Kindergarten Aide in Mrs. Zielke's classroom. A special thank you to Cheryl Ryan for subbing since the start of school as we worked to hire an assistant for this room.
- Forgotten items are frequently brought in during the school day by parents. These items include homework, water bottles, lunches, iPads, among other items students forget to bring with them to school. Please know that lunches are taken to designated grade level baskets in the lunchroom for students to pick up at lunch, and iPads are delivered to class. Other items are placed in teacher mailboxes. Our goal is to minimize classroom interruptions during the instructional day. Your help reminding students to bring all necessary items is greatly appreciated.
Curriculum Update
- Last year was the first year of implementing the math resource Bridges. An important component of this resource is Number Corner. During Number Corner, students use the classroom calendar as a means of providing daily practice of broader math concepts in just 15-20 minutes of instruction. Students identify patterns, build computational fluency, and engage in problem-solving as they apply estimation, measurement, counting, and data analysis. For more information about Number Corner, please visit www.mathlearningcenter.org/number-corner or talk with your child's teacher. You may also see Dr. Palzet's 107 in 107 for a brief video from Number Corner recorded in one of our classrooms.
For our students,
Ms. Tomei
PES Receives Gift From Eagle Scout
Former PES student Danny Orsic, recently completed his Eagle Scout Service Project--new benches for the Butterfly Garden. Thank you to Danny and to Mrs Oskroba who helped guide Danny in making this a reality.
Bus Tags at Work
Dismissal is smooth with our new bus tag system. This safety check helps ensure students board the correct bus as they depart PES.
Blacktop Games Galore!
As we wait for the completion of White Buffalo Park, students enjoy a variety of newly painted blacktop games including Hopscotch.

- For the safety of all, and ease of traffic flow, parents are asked not to exit their vehicle along the Kiss and Go Lane during morning drop off. Students are to exit on the curbside eliminating pedestrian traffic in the passing lane. Parents who wish to assist their child out of the car, are asked to park in the lot and walk them across the lot.
