Nuts & Bolts
August 2, 2019
Woo hoo!
Welcome to the 2019-20 school year! It is hard to believe that we will be all together again on Monday. I hope that you were able to relax and renew this summer. This summer was a blur for me; and, I was able to have some adventures and visit family.
We have all worked very hard this summer and I can't wait to see how this hard work blossoms this year. Thank you teachers for working on curriculum, transforming in Montessori training, and preparing classrooms. Thank you office staff for taking care of all the behind the scene logistics and preparing our environment. Thank you support staff for working out professional learning plans and for joining me at a training for public Montessori leaders from around the nation. Thank you new staff members for joining our team and for your engagement today; you are going to love your new family.
Thank you for committing to MMA, our students, and to each other. Our work is too difficult and too important to complete in isolation. I am grateful to be surrounded by an excellent team of professional, intelligent, passionate, and caring individuals.
As always, please contact me with your questions, concerns, and comments. I look forward to working with each of you this school year. See you soon!
Willard Bay Information
Please arrive at MMA no later than 8am on Monday, August 5th. Everyone will then get situated into no more than 23 cars. Try to leave MMA for Willard Bay by 8:15am. Our activities will take place at Willard Bay State Park at the Eagle 1 group site/pavilion.
Please dress for active water play, bring water, a hat, sunscreen, and bug spray. We will be outside all day and active and in the water for some parts of the day. If you have one, please bring a PFD (life jacket). If you don't have one; don't worry - you can still fully participate even if you don't bring one.
You are welcome to bring your water toys (kayaks, stand up paddle boards, for example). There will be some unstructured time to use these items during our day.
We have paid and reserved this large pavilion and have it until 10pm. You are welcome to stay after our work activities end at 4pm. You can have your friends/family meet you there (or come back), have a picnic dinner, and enjoy the evening on the water.
DIRECTIONS
The North Marina is located 15 miles north of Ogden on Interstate 15. From Interstate 15, take the Willard City Exit 357. Turn west onto State Road 315, drive under the overpass and turn left at the Willard Bay State Park sign.

Back to School Party
Sneak a Peek / Back to School Night
We are hosting a PreK-9th Sneak A Peek / Back to School event on Friday, August 9th from 3-6pm. This is an opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with the building, their teacher(s), and drop off school supplies.
On the half hour, beginning at 3:00pm, then again at 3:30pm, 4:00pm, 4:30pm, 5pm, and 5:30pm - each teacher and assistant will greet families, give an overview of the classroom and expectations. There will also be time for families to ask questions and meet each other.
Ms. Lana and Ms. René will be in the commons area for a brief presentation at 4pm and again at 5:30pm.
The expectation is that your classroom environment will be prepared, tidy, and ready for students. Montessori materials should be out on the shelves. I highly recommend preparing a mini-speech introducing yourself and your classroom and then to practice that mini-speech before families arrive.
There is no RSVP; families are asked to just show up at a time that is most convenient for them.Parents have been encouraged to attend promptly on the half hour so you do not have to stop, start, or repeat yourself. With several time slots, families with multiple children attending MMA have time to visit all their teachers. If parents do not attend your time slot, you may use that time to finalize classroom tasks before students arrive.
All teachers are required to attend. Assistants are encouraged to attend; and, need to work with their lead teachers to ensure assistants to no exceed their allotted weekly hours.
Annual Required Trainings
For your convenience, the annual required trainings are online and can be accessed by clicking the button above. If you have not done so already, you will complete this online training in the library on Tuesday, August 6th at 1pm.
This training includes the employee handbook, legal liability information, blood borne pathogens, sexual harassment, and workers comp. All employees of MMA need to complete these trainings.
Please contact René if you have questions. Thanks!
