NOTE FROM THE NURSE
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), most people who get the flu recover completely in 1 to 2 weeks, but some people develop serious and potentially life-threatening medical complications. During most flu seasons, which typically run from October through May, between 10 percent and 20 percent of the population is infected with influenza viruses. More than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications each year in the U.S.
Talk to your doctor about getting a flu shot.

A few reminders from the School Nurse:
Illness
If your child has a fever greater than 100 degrees, diarrhea, or vomiting they need to remain home until they are symptom free, without the use of medication, for at least 24 hours. Please call the attendance line, to report a student’s absence from school. Please immediately report to the school any diagnosis of strep, pink eye, lice, or other contagious disease. A student with a rash must have a doctor’s note to return to school. More information may be found in the District 57 Handbook.
Medication at School
If your child needs to take any medication at school, including over the counter medications such as Tylenol or Motrin, a Physician Medication Request Form must be filled out and signed by the physician, and parent. Forms may be found on the district website or call the nurse for more information.
PE Class
If your child needs to be excused from gym class, a parent note is required. A parent note will excuse a child from gym class for up to 3 days. After that time, a physician note is necessary.
