Weekly Update
Week of 8/28/23
Happy Monday, everyone!
I hope you are settling into a groove with school. For those of you who are new to homeschooling, don't be afraid to switch things up if something isn't working for you! We have a 3-day weekend coming up next week, and we will start LP1 meetings next Tuesday! Please read over the information below carefully, and as always, let me know if you have any questions.
Dates to Remember/Things to Do:
- If you have not done so, sign and submit this Handbook Signature form asap- this was due last Friday.
- Sign and submit the Media Release Form asap- this was also due last Friday
- Complete the HDC form in the Parent Portal asap- this was ALSO due last Friday (you should've received your login information in a separate email)

- This Friday, Sept 1 - First work sample due! (details below)
- Monday, Sept. 4 - Labor Day, no school

**TK/K Screener update
To my new families with a TK or Kindergarten student- I received an update that the screener must be completed by this Friday. I will be reaching out to you to schedule a time to complete it this week. I apologize for the last minute scrambling!
Star360
All students are required to complete the assigned Star360 assessment(s) for their grade level. The testing window closes this Friday, September 1. You should've received a separate email from me with your student(s) login, and directions for how to complete the test(s).
- All TK/K students are to take the Early Literacy test only.
- **New this year- 1st grade students will take the Early literacy and Math tests, NOT Reading
- All 1st-12th grade students are to take the Reading AND Math test.
Just a reminder that failure to complete the test within the testing window will result in Step 1 of non-compliance. I would recommend NOT waiting until Sept. 1- we have run into issues in the past with the system being overwhelmed with all the last minute log-ins. I truly appreciate your help completing this in a timely manner!
I will be sending out student test results this week via email!
LP1 Work Samples
Our first work sample will be Math. Even though our LP1 meetings will be in September, this work sample is due no later than Friday, September 1. Texting me a screenshot or emailing a pdf, whatever's easiest for you is totally fine. Please make sure the following are included on the work sample:
- Student first and last name (they must write their own name- for TK/K, you may write their last name)
- Date the assignment was completed (Between 8/16/23 and 9/1/23- please make sure it's a school day- Saturdays, Sundays and any holidays won't be accepted)
- Subject (Math this time)
- A grade from you (TK-3rd grade can be a star or happy face, 4th-12th grade must be a percentage, letter grade, or ratio)
Please keep in mind that work samples should reflect the student's best work.
Picture Day is Sept 15!
The ordering website below is live and ready for families to place orders and sign up for 30-minute time slots. The location will be at Lions Park, Visalia! If Friday, Sept 15 doesn't work for you, you can sign up for Tuesday, Sept 12, but that location will be in Hanford.
Satchel Pulse
This is an online platform that our school utilizes for supporting students' social emotional learning. For all my old families that opted out last year, I will assume that you would like to opt out again, unless I hear from you. For my new families, I will give you more insight, as well as my opinion on this topic at our LP1 meeting, and you can decide if you would like to use it or opt out.
New this year- IXL Challenge
Check out the flyer below for our IXL challenge we are having this year! To my new families, I will be sending you your login information soon!
Field Trips update
There has been a glitch reported when using the Eventbrite app, that field trips will show as sold out even though registration may still be open. This is in the process of being corrected, but in the meantime, I would recommend checking from your computer instead. Thank you for your patience!
