Leopard Spotlight!
Zachary Hevron is the Leopard Spotlight winner for 3.24.23. Mr. Hevron has done an amazing job for us in Physics this year. He recently has stepped up in a huge way to support multiple LHS Physics courses. Mr. Hevron is truly an example of a teacher going above and beyond to do what's best for our students. He also recently won the award of Assistant Coach of the Year in Debate! Thank you Mr. Hevron!

Junior/Senior Prom
Tickets for the 2023 LHS Junior and Senior Prom have officially gone on sale. You can use the link or QR code below to purchase your tickets now. Prices will go up periodically as we get closer to the event, so make sure to get your tickets early.
If your student is bringing a visitor to Prom that does not attend Lovejoy High School, you will need to fill out this visitor form. The form needs to be signed by an administrator if the student attends another school or attach a photocopy of the visitor's driver's license if they are out of high school (but under 21). You will also need to fill out this digital form IN ADDITION to the form that needs to be filled out. These forms need to be turned into Ms. Martinez in the AP's office by April 6th.

AP Exams
If your student is enrolled in AP courses, they should be registered on the College Board’s myAP website for each AP course for which they are enrolled. Most students have already successfully registered for the AP exams at school.
The cost for most AP exams is $97.00 per test. Capstone courses- AP Seminar and AP Research- are $145.00 each.

March is National Athletic Training Month
As a part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Our high school and middle school athletic trainers, as well as our student athletic trainers, devote their time and energy to ensuring the health and safety of our student athletes throughout the year.

Volleyball Spring Clinic
Join Lovejoy Volleyball on April 30th for a spring clinic to raise funds for the prestigious Ann Kang Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii. This clinic will be run by National Gatorade Player of the Year, Averi Carlson and our 2023 Varsity Team. K-6th grade will go from 1:00-3:00 and 7th and 8th grade will for from 3:30-5:30, both at LHS. Spots will be $125 each with a t-shirt included. Be sure to sign up quickly as there are limited spots for each session.

Attendance Task Force Weekly Report
Attendance continues to be a top priority for Lovejoy ISD. It should come as no surprise that attendance has a direct relationship with student learning. Additionally, public school funding is provided by the State of Texas based on each district's average daily attendance (ADA).
Lovejoy has developed an Attendance Task Force consisting of staff, parents, and students to formulate ideas about how to positively impact ADA in our district. One suggestion is to update the community via weekly principal communication on the number of absences each campus has accrued YTD along with the budgetary impact of those absences. Lost and Found
We have accumulated a good amount of both water bottles and jackets, as well as other items here at the high school. If your student has lost something lately, please have them stop by the shelf outside of the Assistant Principals' office, or check in with Deborah Martinez. We would love to reunite these lost belongings with their owner.

If your student needs to leave campus for any reason, please send sign-out requests to

Keynote Speaker Selection
Lovejoy High School is proud to announce that Mrs. Cheryl Anderson has been selected as the 2023 AP Seminar Professional Night keynote speaker this June at the yearly AP Capstone Reading in Salt Lake City, UT. Every year during AP readings, each AP subject has a “Professional Night” with a speaker who has distinguished himself or herself as a driving force and influencer in the AP curriculum and program. This year, Mrs Anderson presents “Conquering ChatGPT, Crash Course In Seminar Skills, and Captivating Communication” on AP Seminar’s Professional night, where she will share her perspective, wisdom, and experience with the attendees. Congratulations!
Girls Soccer in the Playoffs!
Last night the girls soccer team beat Corsicana in the first round of the playoffs 8-0. Goals were scored by Emma Nelson (hat trick), Lainey Pierce (2), Ella York (2), and Natalie Burns. Assists were by Emma Nelson, Lainey Pierce, Ella York, Callan Snider (3), Natalie Knight, and Kate Carlson. Kenlea Swadener and Natalie Lenart earned the clean sheet in goal with help from defenders Margo Chester, Bailee Neatherlin, Maggie Manders, Katie Manders, Callan Snider, Gianna Lutcza, and Nicole Young. The Leopards will play the Kingwood Park vs. Mount Pleasant winner on Tuesday the 28th at a time and location TBD.

Your Leopards Boys Soccer Team were crowned District Champions and will have the number one seed for district 13-5A heading into playoffs.

Speech & Debate
Paari Palani and David Wise competed at the UIL State Competition for Policy Debate last weekend! While they didn't win the whole thing, they did advance to Day 2 of competition and David Wise brought home 2nd Speaker overall, so it was still a big success. Good job boys!
Softball
Our softball season is off and running, Varsity has a 15-9 overall record (with tournament road trips to Houston and College Station to play the top 6a competition in Texas), and 4-1 in the district. Our next home game is Friday @ McKinney North 3/24/23. The following week we play @ Melissa March 31st 2023. Jade Owens has also reached 300 career strikeouts and currently has 303 with another 7 district games left plus playoffs. Jade had 130 her sophomore year, 104 Junior, and at 69 today.
Basketball
Congratulations to the Lovejoy basketball team and Karson Templin for being named to the TABC All-State team for the 22-23 season. Karson was one of 20 players named to this prestigious list and is the first player named to the list since Joseph Gonzalez earned honors in 2012. The Utah State signee was also named to the Dallas Morning News 3rd team All-Area squad for his work this season. Templin averaged 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks this year.

Other accolades for the Leopards this week include Akshat Saini and Parker Patel being named to the THSCA Academic All-State teams. Patel made the Honorable Mention team while Saini was named to the Elite Team. Academic All-State honorees must have an overall GPA of 92 or better for courses from grades 9-12. The committee also weighs class rank and SAT scores. Congratulations to both student-athletes for earning this incredible honor!
Robotics
Congratulations to our teams that qualified to VEX Worlds (AKA: The VEX Robotics World Championship) at the Texas Region 2 Championship back on March 4th! - Team 1082X won the Innovate Award and Team 1082E won the Create Award- which are both big accomplishments! A few more Lovejoy Robotics teams qualified to VEX Worlds through their excellent Skills scores.. Teams 1082C, 1082J and 1082V all advanced to the World Championship thanks to high scores and their many hours of dedication and hard work. Teams 1082C, 1082J and 1082R were also Quarterfinalists! Congratulations teams!!! Every team that attended state did a great job and I’m so thankful for every students' hard work and dedication!
Medal of Merit
LHS Junior David David received the Medal of Merit this week during the Boy Scouts of America ceremony at the Plano Events Center. This medal is awarded to a Scout who has performed meritorious service above and beyond that normally expected of a youth or adult member of the Boy Scouts of America. This honor is rarely and selectively bestowed. He is receiving this award for putting out the fire at Lovejoy High School on February 14, 2022. You may find more information about the medal here:

The Parent-Teacher Organizations in the Lovejoy Independent School District each will award one $500 scholarship to a college bound senior graduating from Lovejoy High School in 2023. This centralized application means that each student completes the application ONCE, but is eligible for PTO scholarships through the Lovejoy schools they attended (plus the Lovejoy Council and Preschool PTO).
All student applicants (a) must have attended LHS during their sophomore, junior, and senior years; (b) be a member of the LHS Parent-Teacher-Student-Organization (PTSO); (c) complete the online scholarship application, including the essays; (d) upload a resume; and (e) have one letter of recommendation submitted.
To apply for the scholarship, students must complete the application by clicking on the link button below.
The form at the link will allow students to exit and return to the application in case they cannot complete it in one sitting.

Outstanding Service Awards
The Lovejoy Council of PTOs will be recognizing two special individuals at Lovejoy High School who have given outstanding service to our children this year. This recognition is one of the highest honors which can be bestowed upon an individual by our PTSO. The only requirement for receiving this honor is that the recipient has promoted students’ well-being and demonstrated care for children.
A nominee for recognition may be a parent, volunteer, teacher, administrator, or a community leader. The recipient is not required to be a PTSO member.
If you would like to nominate someone for this award, please fill out the form below. The recognition committee will carefully consider each candidate.
