Madison's summer
Especially made for Madison
Summer recommendations
Summer is a time to rest and relax but I also want to avoid the summer slide. I want all students to keep up the rigor by recommending some camps based on interest and need. After talking with Ashley and reviewing Madison's file, I think the camps below might help by gradually releasing a structured environment over the summer while providing some fun.
Writing through storytelling
I will be teaching this class at ESD July 28-August1 from 8:30-10:30. We will be acting out stories by using apps and writing about stories too. This class could be a great way to get Madison excited about writing.
Handwriting
Parish offers a manuscript handwriting program called SPOTS. SPOTS utilizes a multi-sensory teaching approach using tactile, kinesthetic, visual, verbal and olfactory systems in order to reinforce stroke pattern. The goal of this camp is for letter formation to become automatic. Four sessions are offered. Just select the session that works best with your schedule. Classes are from 10:30-12:00.
- June 16-20
- June 23-27
- July 21-25
- July 28- Aug 1
Camp Invention
I directed this camp last summer. What I love about this camp is that it is much like my teaching style. Students get to learn and create things. They do not follow a set model; it is truly 21st century learning. Check out the videos to learn more. http://www.youtube.com/user/CampInvention
Camp Invention will be at the Upper Campus July 21-25. Register through ESD Summer Camps or Camp Invention.
Summer Reading
The best advice I can give anyone is to read over the summer. Did you know that your child can get a plethora of prizes just for reading? I have listed below some of my favorites. I highly encourage you to "double-dip" in these programs. I would gather all of the logs and then start recording your reading.
Dallas and Highland Park Libraries- Summer Reading
Dallas and Highland Park offer free summer reading challenges. Participants can get tickets to the circus, a summer musical and a Rangers game all for reading.
Barnes and Noble Summer Reading
Go to Barnes and Noble to get the reading log. Read eight books and log them. Turn in the reading log and you will get a free book.
Chuck E. Cheese
Download and print out the Chuck E Cheese Reading Rewards calendar. Mark the days off with a pen or sticker as your child accomplishes their goals. Bring it in completed to Chuck E. Cheeseās and receive 10 free tokens as a reward.
