A Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley High School
We have a busy weekend in the Valley. Our boys and girls basketball teams play Friday and Saturday respectively in the last game of Districts before heading to States next week. The boys battle Haverford tonight at 7pm here at the HS, while the girls will play Haverford at Temple Saturday at 4pm for the District Championship. A huge thank you to our Cheerleaders and fans who have been at every game cheering on our teams! Seven of our wrestlers are heading to Regionals Friday and Saturday at Souderton. The Robotics team heads to Hatboro Horsham Friday, Saturday and Sunday for their first competition with their robot "Buggy Boy" and PVHS is home to the Foundations Dodgeball Tournament on Saturday. We wish everyone the best of luck in their endeavors this weekend and GO VIKINGS!
There are only several days left for students to pick their courses for next year in StudentVue or ParentVue. Please log in and go to Course Request. There is a short video on that page that explains how to request courses. Students have until March 7th to pick their electives. If a student wishes to change a core class they must contact their counselor immediately. All students must pick at least 6 credits total. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Program Planning- Deadline to Pick Classes is March 7
We are excited to share the 2023-2024 PVHS Program Planning Guide and to initiate conversations with our students about course selections for next year. The 2023-2024 Programming Planning Guide can be accessed on the High School webpage, under “Academics.” It includes several updates from last year’s version. Also on the High School webpage, you will find information about graduation pathways, North Montco Technical Career Center, and subject area departments.
For the 2023-2024 school year, the high school will offer several new courses that your child may want to consider. These include Piano, Music Composition, Select Choir, and AP PreCalculus. In addition to the new courses, we have made revisions to several existing course names, such as Art courses for example, to more accurately reflect the course content. We have also expanded the Education at Work course to include job site visits.
Another significant change reflected in the guide is a reduction in the number of levels of courses offered. Currently, the high school offers academic, college preparatory, honors, and AP levels courses. As we continue our commitment to providing all students with a rigorous learning experience, the high school is eliminating the academic level courses for all English and Social Studies classes. This level has previously been eliminated in Mathematics and most Science courses. With the elimination of the academic level will come the creation of core level classes, for example English 11 (Core level) or US History II (Core level). Honors level classes will continue to be offered and identified for example, as English 11 Honors or US History II Honors.
We look forward to providing our students with a rigorous learning experience in the upcoming 2023-24 school year. The updates to the Program Planning Guide will contribute to achieving this outcome. Our teachers will continue to deliver best practices of instruction and work with students who require additional support. We have lots to offer and will do all that we can to support the success of your child as they progress through their high school experience.

Information From Our Nurses
Illness at School
The following procedure should be followed if a student becomes ill at school:
Students are expected to report to the nurse’s suite if they are not feeling well. A parent/guardian will be called if the nurse determines the student is too ill to remain in school, has a temperature of 100.0F and above, or vomiting/diarrhea.
A prearranged early dismissal by the student/ parent for illness is considered an early dismissal. Should a parent/guardian need to have a student dismissed from school before the regular time for special or urgent reasons, the parent/guardian should send a written request or email that includes the reason, date, time, and signature of a parent/guardian. Early dismissals will be recorded as class absences.
The student must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of medications (i.e. Tylenol or Advil), and 24 hours without vomiting or diarrhea before returning to school.
Students are not allowed to be sent home in an Uber, Lyft, taxi, etc.
