National Youth Science Camp
Attention Graduating Iowa High School Seniors
A Summer Adventure to Remember
National Youth Science Camp
June 28 - July 21, 2021
Two graduating Iowa high school seniors will again be selected to attend the National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp) to be held June 28 - July 21, 2021. The camp is sponsored by the West Virginia Governor in cooperation state governors including Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds. The Iowa Academy of Science is coordinating the selection process in Iowa.
The National Youth Science Camp is an honors program for two high-achieving high school graduates from each state in the United States and eight additional countries. This unique residential experience has been held in a rustic setting in West Virginia’s eastern mountains since 1963.
In 2020 it was a virtual camp and due to ongoing concerns about the pandemic, and taking into account the safety of our 2021 delegates, the Board of Trustees of the NYSC has elected to again cancel the in-residence of the 2021 NYSCamp and host a second virtual camp experience. The camp is an exceptional opporltunity. Even with the virtual nature of the camp, delegates are expected to participate daily in camp activities for the entire duration of camp. Students meet students from the United States and around the world. The NYSCamp is offered to selected participants at NO COST so that talented students may attend regardless of their financial ability.
All expenses are paid!
The NYSCamp is a broad science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) experience. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
To qualify the students must demonstrate the following:
- Must graduate from high school between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021.
- Must have documented superior academic proficiency, including recognition in STEM.
- Must have documented leadership abilities and social maturity.
- Must have documented skills and achievements outside the realm of STEM and outside academia.
- Must demonstrate a curiosity and an eagerness to explore new topics.
- Must intend to pursue higher education and a career in a STEM-related field.
- Must be willing and able to participate daily for the entire duration of the NYSCamp program.
