2020-2021 Student Device Agreements
To make the process safer, a Google Form version will be used. This will reduce paper and make information easier to review.
Please carefully review and complete this year's device agreement for your DHS student as soon as possible.
Optional insurance is $25 per student. If free/reduced application on file with MPS, $10 per student or $20 cap per family. School Pay direct link will pop up after you submit the form. See details in agreement form.
Device Repair
Chromebooks were collected K-12 for inventory and repair in June during locker cleanout. The intent was inventory devices, and then to repair all damage, minor and major. The high volume of devices needing minor repair coupled with COVID timeframes for repair led to the following adjustment:
"If a computer has cosmetic damage that does not impede the functionality of the system nor does it pose a danger to the student, that we will not repair the cosmetic damage until one of the following scenarios:
- The student changes from grade 5 to 6
- The student changes from grade 8 to 9
- The student offboards for whatever reason (transfer, graduation, etc.)
- It is being repaired already for something that is either dangerous or impedes the function of the system."
What does this mean?
- Graduating senior devices were all assessed and are being repaired for issuance to incoming freshman.
- Class of 2021, 2022, and 2023 devices with cosmetic damages will not be repaired until one the the scenarios above.
I helped check-in senior devices, after IT assessed the devices, during our senior collection process, and I would estimate that 40-45% of the graduating senior devices required some form of repair (predominantly hinge damage and/or hairline cracks in the base from falls). The fines for damage were assessed based on the cost of the specific parts, and labor.
I provide this information to give you an accurate picture of what I have seen when it comes to devices and damage. Below are links to the MPS tech website for both the optional 1:1 Device Insurance, as well as the device parts cost. In the device agreement you must accept or decline insurance, which is why it must be done prior to issuing the device.
