Week of 10.11.15

Mission Statement

Northwood Elementary School will provide higher-level learning opportunities for all students to maximize their potential in a safe, nurturing, respectful, and diverse environment.

Dress for the weather!

Please remember to send your child(ren) in dressed for the weather. At this time of year it is a good idea to keep a zipper hoodie or sweatshirt in their backpack. We go out everyday for recess unless it is raining or the temperature is approximately 15 degrees.

Remember to label everything.

Fun Run was a tremendous success!

Thank you for your generosity in support of the Fun Run. We could not have had a successful event without the parent volunteers and leadership for this event. You made it a great day for kids and staff.

I look forward to seeing the total donation amount after the window closes this week. We have exceeded our goal thanks to your kindness. Yes, you can still donate.

Donations are still being processed and the drawing for prizes will be completed on Friday morning.

Students benefit from the funds raised and we are excited to continue supporting students and their learning.

Erin's Law and Haven Lessons

Please help

In the last couple of weeks we have encountered a problem with the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade student bathrooms upstairs. The boys' bathroom has had inappropriate drawings and language written on the stalls. In the girls' bathroom and boys' bathroom we have found feces on the floor and stalls. I have spoken to the students and asked for their assistance. We have a beautiful building and this has never been a problem at Northwood. I appreciate your help in sending a message that this is not the way we treat our school. Thank you.

Parent Connect

Please remember to make the following changes in Parent Connect if you need to.

Changes in the following are completed by parents in parent connect:

Phone numbers

Email Addresses

Primary and Emergency Contacts (who can pick up your child from school)

The update may not be reflected for 24 hours.

You cannot change your home address in the system. You must go to the Board Office.

Please email ashburna@royaloakschools.org if you have any questions. We have computers available for parents to use. Thank you.

Q & A

1. Can my child have peanut butter in the lunch room?

Yes. Nut and tree nut free applies to classroom snack time. It applies to each classroom. Please carefully read the labels. If the classroom snack item contains nuts or tree nuts it will be returned to the locker/backpack.

2. How do I sign up for conferences?

Teachers choose their method of sign up. Contact the teacher for the sign up method. Conferences are by appointment only on 11/23, 12/1, or 12/3. They run from 4-7 pm. We aim for 100% participation (we want to see every child represented).

3. I live on McDonald and my driveway is blocked during drop off and pick up. Can you help me?

Yes. Please do not block our neighbor driveways at drop off and pick up. Thank you.
