Dear LLR Families,
It has been a very busy few weeks at Lakeland Ridge. Badminton and handball are well underway and our cast and crew of Matilda, under the direction of Ms. Dahl, are getting ready to put on a number of great shows during the last week of April. There are still tickets available but they are selling fast.
There are a number of staffing changes that we would like to make you are of. You can read about them in this update under "Staffing Changes".
We hope all of you have a chance to spend some quality time with your family and friends this Easter long weekend! We will see everyone on Tuesday, April 19.

Staffing Updates
Administration Staffing Change
Our principal, Mr. Jeff Huculak, has been seconded to Central Office for the remainder of the school year. Beginning April 21, Mr. Huculak will be working in Human Resources, where he will be assisting in staffing positions for the Division for the upcoming school year. Mr. Huculak will return as principal of Lakeland Ridge in September. Mrs. Kerri Williams will serve as Acting For Principal in his absence.
Kindergarten and Grade 1 Funding Update
We received funding from the provincial government to support student literacy and numeracy instruction in Grade 1 and Kindergarten. We are in the process of notifying Grade 1 families if their child will be receiving additional support. We have hired Mrs. Kali Hale and Ms. Taylin Janke. Mrs. Hale will provide pull-out support to our identified Grade 1 students in the mornings. Her assignment begins on Tuesday, April 19 until Thursday, June 2, 2022. Ms. Taylin Janke is an Educational Assistant who recently completed her first-year Speech Language Pathologist Assistant training. Ms. Janke will provide full-time support to students in both our Kindergarten classes beginning on Monday, April 25 until the end of the year.
Junior High Staffing Change
Mrs. Chapman recently went on maternity leave. We wish Mrs. Chapman and her growing family all the best and are pleased to welcome Ms. Anna Korzeniewski to our Lakeland Ridge team. Ms. Korzeniewski will begin on Tuesday, April 19 and remain in the position until the end of the school year.
We wish to extend a warm wolf welcome to our new staff!

2021-2022 Yearbook Order
If you are interested in purchasing a yearbook for the 2021-22 school year, please log into your ParentPortal account to place your order. The link will be active until Friday, April 22. No late orders will be accepted due to printing timelines.
Spread the Word: EIPS is Hiring Substitute Educational Assistants
Do you know someone who’s great at working with children and youth and eager to support student learning? Someone who’s looking for a flexible schedule and variety in their day-to-day tasks? Spread the word! Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is hiring substitute educational assistants (EA) to work on a casual, on-call basis supporting all school locations.
EAs are integral to the school team, assisting teachers with instructional and non-instructional tasks in the classroom and other school activities. Whether it’s working one-on-one with individual students or with a small group of students in a class or special program, EAs provide support and assistance to help students achieve success. Substitute EAs are critical to ensuring the continuity of student learning each and every day.
Substitute EAs are needed to fill positions until the end of the school year. If you know someone who’d be great in this role, encourage them to apply today.

April 2022 Career Pathways News
Career Pathways is designed to develop skills that students can apply in their daily lives when preparing for entry into the workplace or for further learning opportunities. Competencies achieved will allow students to make relevant connections with work and/or post-secondary training. Our Mission: To provide authentic, relevant, and engaging career opportunities and foster growth and readiness for life after school.
Each month Career Pathways distributes relevant planning material, presentation sessions, occupational spotlights, and other helpful information meant to support students and families. It is our hope students in Junior High begin to understand opportunities available to them and explore and reflect on a variety of experiences to help them plan their next steps. High School students continue to set goals and further develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes that increase their readiness to successfully transition beyond high school.
Strathcona County Earth Day Shoe Drive
Keeping shoes out of the landfill and into the hands of people that need them is an important action that we can all do this Earth Day. On April 22, Strathcona County schools are encouraged to collect shoes of any size and style to be donated to a variety of charitable organizations Strathcona County works with. Prizes are available for participating schools—and teachers.

Strathcona County’s Agriculture Service Board holds an annual
poster contest promoting agriculture in Strathcona County. The contest encourages students in grades 3-5 to think about the importance of agriculture in their lives no matter where they live. This year's theme is

Provincially Provided Masks Available
Families who would like their child’s provincially provided masks can email Mrs. Desaulniers at amy.desaulniers@eips.ca. Please indicate how many students you have attending Lakeland Ridge School and if you prefer the adult or child size masks. The office will then prepare your request and send the masks home with your child. Virtual Family Gatherings
Many thanks to the families who joined us for our virtual gatherings this winter. It was a pleasure to reconnect with those who were part of the gatherings last year and to welcome new families to our virtual circle. We’re grateful for the conversation, the ideas shared and the feedback on work that’s happening throughout the Division. We look forward to seeing you all again next school year—hopefully in person at some point!

Planning for the 2022- 23 School Year
March and April are busy times for school lead teachers and the First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education team as planning begins for next school year. Lead teachers and the team reflect on the successes and challenges of the past year, and the hopes for 2022-23. If you have ideas or feedback for your child’s school or the Division in general, please reach out to the lead teacher or connect with the First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education team.
Treaty 6 and Métis Nation Flag Raising | June 13
If you’ve driven by EIPS Central Services recently, you may have noticed the addition of two new flag poles. As a further commitment on the path of truth telling toward reconciliation, and as an affirmation as Treaty partners, EIPS will be raising the Treaty 6 and Métis Nation flag on June 13. Each school in the Division will also display the two flags and are busy planning staff professional development and student learning experiences to understand the significance of each flag. More information on the Central Services ceremony and the specific events at each school will be shared in the near future.
Opening of Central Services Land-based Learning Space | June 21
EIPS has been working closely with Elder WIlson Bearhead to design and build a land-based learning space at EIPS Central Services. With spring on its way, construction will resume on the space. As part of Indigenous Peoples’ Day on June 21, EIPS will officially open the space, honour our ongoing relationship with Elder Wilson and affirm our commitment to deepen our relationship with the land that sustains us. We’ll share details of the opening event as the date draws closer.
EIPS 2022-23 Division Calendar: Now available!
The official 2022-23 EIPS calendar is now available. The calendar includes important dates during the 2022-23 school year, such as school-closure days, breaks, the first and last day of classes, professional learning days, early dismissal days, plus more.
Highlights from the 2022-23 EIPS calendar include:
First day of school – Aug. 30, 2022
November break – November 7-11
Christmas break – December 21 to January 3
Second semester starts – January 31
Teachers’ Convention – February 9-10
