Third & Fourth Grade
Almost October
Fall - Autumn - here we come
Hello Parents,
I have requested from Mr. Ivan his news and I am sharing it with you. This should keep down the amount of notes and (repetitive) information from either the two of us and/or the Office.
In Religion
My favorite subject, we are learning new songs for mass; which was a special request from Father Wagner. We review the readings for the weekly mass and discuss how it relates to daily life. We are delving even deeper into the Bible. We have not left the Book of Genesis but have read so many stories already.
I am very happy with the response from the students on how Religion affects daily living.
Language Arts:
We have our weekly Spelling Tests which started with 4th Grade last week. This week will be the 3rd Grade group. Each class has two weeks to study the words. We use them in sentences. We define them. We alphabetize them and also list them according to syllables.
4th Grade is continuing with “Little House in the Big Woods” and 3rd Grade is getting close to the end of “Frindle”.
We are really trying to complete our Penmanship practices so we can use it writing Scriptural quotes.
Both groups are also using the Journeys textbook. The basal text book is great for giving the children a short excerpt from the full novel. The other paperback that we read is to give them the full story. It is great for discussions.
Math is slowly getting there. We are still learning the place and value of digits up to the hundred thousands. I ask that you purchase or make some simple addition flash cards and subtraction flash cards to help your child increase the speed. The concept has been learned but the need for speed and accuracy is helpful.
From Mr. Ivan’s class:
This week the students have been given Vocabulary 2 Quiz.
(Monday 3rd Grade and Tuesday to 4th).
You can check them in their (Spanish) Language Arts notebook and in your calendar
Mathematics is continuing with the rounding of numbers and common factors.
In Science:
This week the students will be evaluated on the Solar System -3rd Grade on Wednesday; and on Natural Phenomena – 4th Grade.
I am reminding the students they must bring a water bottle so they can drink during classtime. Several of them have stopped bringing bottles and are asking permission to leave the class
