Wind energy
A renwable energy source
Renewable energy
Renewable energy is generated from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, tide, and rain.Renewable energy replenish's quickly and are a never ending supply.Renewable energy is found in nature.non renewable energy took 10000,00000 of years to form.
How wind turbines work
wind power is extracted from wind using turbines or sails.wind turbines operate on a simple principle. The energy in the wind turns two or three propeller like blades around a rotor. The rotor is is connected to the main shaft, which spins a generator to create electricity. The generator is put in the wind mill the wind mill is put in fields or wind farms
Modern to old
Modern wind mills look a lot different then older types.Tower mills (older) were used to grind flour, pump water or saw wood.Modern wind mills (wind turbine) are used to make electricity. Wind turbines were first built in Denmark in the 1890s. They were used to provide electricity to places that did not receive electricity from power stations. At one time these wind turbines were able to provide 25% of all the electricity used by Danish industry.
Pros of wind energy
-doesn't creat smoke or smog
-the potential of wind power is enormous 20 times more than the entire human population needs
-wind power is renewable and there is no way we can run out of it
-the operational costs associated with wind energy are low
-good domestic potential :resident wind turbines yields energy savings and protects home owners from power outages
Cons of wind energy
-wind turbines can be a threat to nature ,birds and bats
-noise
-wind is a fluctuating source of energy and is not suited to meet the base load energy demand unless some form of energy storage is utilized
-the manufacturing and installation of wind turbines requires heavy upfront investments
-how wind turbines look is a legitimate concern for some people
