* All transportation changes need to be done through the front office. You may call 696-3400 or email contactcges@bentonvillek12.org. If you would like to tell the teacher as well, that is fine, but sometimes teachers do not have time to check their emails and it is possible that transportation change will not be made. * If your student would like to eat breakfast with us in the morning, please have them to school by 7:15. This will give them enough time to eat and still make it to class by the 7:30 tardy bell.
*Car Line Reminder: Please go slow and safe while driving through the car rider line.

Music Notes from Mrs. Teague
Hello families,
Welcome back! I hope your summer was both enjoyable and relaxing. I am excited to have your students back in the music classroom. For the next several weeks, we will be getting back into routine and reviewing the standards learned in the previous school year. 2nd thru 4th graders will focus on basic beat and rhythm skills, while Kindergarten and 1st graders will begin to explore what it means to be musical and how to differentiate the steady beat from an unsteady beat. Students will play various games, sing songs and dance/move to all kinds of music. I will also be using the SeeSaw platform to post various activities and photos throughout the year; this can all be accessed from the same account as your students' classroom-just look for the one that says Music!
Here are a few interactive websites where you and your student can explore music together!
https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/Experiments (Chrome Music Lab)
www.nyphilkids.org (New York Philharmonic Kidzone)
www.sfskids.org (San Francisco Symphony Kids)
www.quavermusic.com (Quaver-Music Curriculum)
From Coach Neisler and Coach Yarrington
The first round of PE lessons will focus a lot on routines, understanding personal space, and moving around the gym under control using various locomotor movements.
We hope to start our biking lessons soon and have brand new fun activities and equipment to use. If your child needs additional assistance biking or you want to progress their biking skills into mountain biking, please look into the Buddy Pegs program. There are many different levels to choose from. Strider bikes, intro to pedaling, after school bike clubs, trail riding, etc.
We look forward to having a wonderful year!
Digital Literacy From Mrs. Richard
Yes, our class name has been changed from STEM Lab to Digital Literacy. We will continue to follow the Arkansas K-4 Computer Science standards. In every grade level, we will be doing computer and hands-on activities to explore how computing devices work, why they work, and what to do when they don’t work. We will also be learning the important responsibilities of being a digital citizen in the 21st century. To further support your students, you can explore the keyboard at home so that students are familiar with where the keys are located. The website https://www.dancemattypingguide.com is a fun resource to use to start learning the keys. I’m looking forward to a great year of exploring technology and the exciting changes it brings to our world.

PBIS @ CGES
PBIS
Positive Behavior Intervention and Support
PBIS is the program that all Bentonville Elementary and Middle schools will use. Through PBIS, students learn about behavior, just as they learn about other subjects like math or science. We put an emphasis on intentionally teaching students our behavior expectations throughout the school. PBIS is a preventative and proactive strategy; the idea is that we will reward students to reinforce expected behaviors. We have a behavior matrix that states the expectations throughout the school.
Reward System
PBIS relies on positive reinforcement to teach students the power of appropriate behavior. We will be using the PBIS rewards application to positively reward our students. Each student will wear a badge that has their name and a QR code. When a staff member sees a student meeting an expectation they can reward the student with a point, using either their cell phone or classroom computer. Students will be able to ‘spend’ their points in their classroom and in our Colt-Mart. The Colt-Mart will be open once a month and all classes will be given the opportunity to shop "online" through their teacher starting next month.
Frequently asked Questions
Can students have points taken away?
No, students cannot lose points or have them taken away. We have a consequence flow chart that teachers will follow but this is completely separate from the student’s points. It is important for students to know that they have earned their points and these will not be taken away.
How will I know if my child behaved appropriately today?
Parents can download the PBIS rewards parents application on their phones. This will allow parents to see how many points their student earned that day. It will also allow for two way communication with teachers. Parents will continue to contact parents via phone calls if there are repetitive behavior concerns.
You can download the PBIS app from your Apple or Google Play store. The QR code that you received from your child's teacher is specific to your child and you must have this to download the application. Please contact Michelle Eichler if you need help with the PBIS rewards parent app.
Counselor's Corner
Hello parents!
Welcome back to school! It's been another exciting start to our school year. It is so good to see your children walk through our door.
Ms. Eichler and I would like to introduce our intern for the fall semester, Mrs. White. She will be with us on Tuesday and Thursday each week. We are excited to have her be a part of our school counseling team!
Our core word for the month of September is Initiative. Initiative can be described as knowing how to do something independently. You will find a newsletter attached with different ideas and suggestions for you to use at home with your children. Our in person classroom lessons will concentrate on conflict resolution. We are focusing on taking the initiative to work on strategies to solve the conflict in a positive manner.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to a great year!
