TECHNOLOGY CAMPUS CHRONICLE
VOL 6 ISSUE 21
PRINCIPAL CORNER
Dear OSES Families,
This week brough us to the end of Boosterthon and the start of Black History Month. Thank you to every parent, grandparent, relative, family friend, co-worker, and business who supported our fund raiser. We exceeded our goal and look forward to making the best decision on ways to reinvest the funding directly back into the school. The Boosterthon will be annual even moving forward, we hope you can donate again, or can donate next year if you couldn’t this drive. The students really enjoyed all the school day activities, I hope they shared with you their experiences.
February is Black History Month at OSES. In addition to having a Black History Night on February 29th, students will learn about the people, history, and culture during the school day. We will also have some fun schoolwide activities. Remember that OSES is one of the most diverse schools in the entire state, lets celebrate these cultural events together.
Have a good weekend and Go Chiefs!
Michael Singleton
Principal

THIS WEEK IN GRADES K-6
KINDERGARTEN
Bradley
This week Ms. Bradley’s class had a blast during our final day of the boosterthon at the fun run!! In phonics, students have been working hard on reading and writing words and sentences with ‘r’ blends, ‘l’ blends, and ‘w’ blends. In math, students have just begun identifying as well as composing and decomposing teen numbers into a group ten and some more ones. In Science, students have begun their STEM Fair projects! We are excited to test our hypothesis and see the results.
FIRST
This week Ms. Nickerson’s class began learning more about the state of Florida by painting maps of the state. We learned all about the capital city of Tallahassee and how to locate various places within Florida on a map!
This Thursday we went to see “Giraffes Can’t Dance!” at the Orlando Family Stage. The students loved seeing the story they had read in class played out on stage!
Each first-grade class is beginning to work on and complete their STEM Fair projects for the year. Students are learning how to integrate the scientific method to solve real-world problems revolving around Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The students LOVE STEM days!
SECOND
Yeaman
This week in Mrs. Yeaman’s class we had a fun kickoff on Monday with the boosterthon fun run! Students were super excited to earn every prize on our class prize meter and ended up raising over $80 a lap! We have been working hard this quarter learning. We just finished our unit on geometry and learned how to classify shapes. In reading we have been enjoying reading informational text and going deeper with our understanding of the author’s purpose. In Social Studies we learned about the different styles of homes that Native Americans lived in. We built models of each type and wrote persuasive paragraphs about why we feel our home was the best.
THIRD
Wullschleger
This week Ms. Wullschleger's class started all new units in every subject. We are also celebrating lots of commendation points. The orca store is open and students can earn orca money.
ELA: We started unit 7 which talks about how to make a difference. We are making a difference in our classroom and our community.
Math: We started unit 9 which is on two step word problems. Students have been creating number sequences, as well as deciding whether the equation is true.
Social Studies: Our class is looking forward to learning about the different regions in the United States. We are learning about the northeast region. They can hardly wait to create the flotes.
FOURTH
This week in fourth grade students are celebrating winning the Literacy week AR challenge with a popsicle party! Mrs. Blaske’s class was the winner for 4th and 5th grade with the most books read! Also, students are practicing their essay writing skills by studying the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and using their research to create strong informative essays! In addition, we are reading fables and folktales and comparing and contrasting different themes in the readings. Students also are preparing their science fair projects and learning about dependent and independent variables.
FIFTH
Saucedo
In Mrs. Saucedo’s science class, we worked on a balloon rocket experiment to test force and motion! Students were excited to participate in the experiments and practiced their scientific investigation by completing their own lab report.
Thank you so much, OSES families, for supporting this year's Rocket Boosterthon! Our fifth graders had a blast at the fun run!
SPECIALS
Character Education- Bagnati
In Character Education the past month, we have been busy getting to know each other, talking about active listening, and practicing collaboration. In Kindergarten, students worked together to complete a puzzle; 1st Grade, students worked to build a structure out of cups, but first were asked to try and communicate silently for the first two minutes; 2nd Grade worked on creating different things such as a playground together out of LEGOs; 3rd Grade worked together to create the longest paper chain within 5 minutes and have also been working in partners to create a paper airplane; 4th Grade worked together to make the most creative structure using marshmallows and toothpicks with some restrictions – they could not talk for 2 minutes and then they could not use their dominate hand for the next 3 minutes; and lastly, 5th Grade worked together to try and save Fred by putting a life saver on a gummy worm by only using paperclips and no hands. It was so much fun seeing all of the students work together! Moving forward, Kindergarten and 1st grade will begin learning about different emotions, 2nd grade will be learning about empathy, 3rd grade will be learning about mindfulness, and 4th and 5th grade will be talking about conflict resolution.
STEM- OConnor
In STEM this week we learned about architectural shapes and how to build some strong shapes from just paper and tape! This will help us create amazing STEM structures in the future.
McAdams- P.E.
Miles kids!
SIXTH
Spanish- Bravo
It has been nice to get to know this semester set of students! I can now say that I know every single sixth grader at our school, haha
In Spanish class, these past weeks, students have been learning greetings and good-byes, the alphabet, numbers, and how to tell the time. They have also been working on a Spanish Speaking Country Slides- Project in class that will be due on 3/1. This month we started our Food Unit. We have new vocabulary words, and we will be working on a Grocery Shopping activity and in a Restaurant activity this month.
On a separate note, Our Spain trip is still accepting participants. We have Just 4 spots left. Go to my.passports.com and enter the Tour ID: IBravo-Rivera2024-3 or scan the QR code below for tour details.
Think of Kindness as a universal language that transcends race, religion, ethnicity, and nationality. Join us in our commitment to spread the message of kindness in the hearts and minds of our community to see just how fun, easy, and accessible kindness truly is.
Benefits of kindness:
1) Kindness makes us happier.
When we do something kind for someone else, we feel good. So, go ahead and volunteer, help someone in need, or try one of the 50+ ways to spread kindness (see image below).
2) Kindness gives us healthier hearts.
Acts of kindness are often accompanied by emotional warmth. Emotional warmth produces the hormone oxytocin in the brain and throughout the body, and therefore kindness can be said to be cardio-protective.
3) Kindness is contagious.
When we're kind, we inspire others to be kind, and it actually creates a ripple effect that spreads outwards. Just as a pebble creates waves when it is dropped in a pond, so acts of kindness ripple outwards, touching others' lives and inspiring kindness everywhere the wave goes. Watch this Kindness Boomerang video.
Have a Great Weekend!!
