The Mustang Message

November Edition

Monthly Update

November has made its appearance and so has the cold weather! With the cold weather arriving, please make sure that your child arrives at school each day dressed in warm clothes. Those recess times can get pretty chilly! If your child is in need of a coat or other winter clothing accessories, please contact the office and we will provide you with assistance. Also, our lost and found is piling up! Please encourage your child to look through the lost and found to claim any of their lost items. We will have these items laid out during Parent-Teacher Conferences for parents to look through as well. After conferences, we will donate these items to a local thrift store.

Thanksgiving Break and Homework

November is an important month for us. Throughout this next month, students and staff members will work hard to help us achieve our goals. The Melba School District has adjusted our calendar this year. Thanksgiving Break will occur from November 23rd-November 26th. Students will not be in school this entire week. Please help support us at home by continuing to have your child read at least 20 minutes each night. Students can also access our i-Ready program at home through the following link: This program provides students will specially designed math and reading curriculum that is developed to meet their individual needs. Students utilize their usernames and passwords on a daily basis and have these memorized. For students in Kindergarten and first grade, you can contact your child's teacher to have this information if they have not quite memorized it yet. Thank you! We appreciate all of your hard work and dedication you have in helping your child complete their homework each night. Helping your child reach educational success is a team effort, and we recognize your participation and efforts. We are so appreciative!

We would also like to thank you for helping us to keep our students and staff members safe this last quarter. We were able to complete the last quarter COVID free in our school and recognize the efforts taken by all. Our families have been great about keeping students home when they are not feeling well and taking preventative measures outside of school. We thank you and will continue to follow our COVID policies and procedures this next quarter. We hope that you all have a great Thanksgiving break!

School Lunch

Free Lunch!

The Melba School District has received a federal grant in response to COVID-19 to provide all students with free breakfast and lunch! This program will begin on October 26th. Students who have accrued fines previously to October 26th will still need to pay these fines. We recommend that you leave any money that was in your child's account at this time. If your child would like to purchase a second lunch in the same day, this will be charged to their account. We are so excited to provide this service to our families! Please contact us with any questions you may have.

PTA Fundraising

Thank you for your participation this year in our school fundraising. We are very appreciative of our PTA members. They have been working hard on developing various fundraisers to help bring money to our teachers and school. PTA has also developed a Facebook page to help promote our fundraising activities as well as provide you with additional communication about events and activities happening at our school. Please make sure you follow their page!

Farmstead Night

Farmstead Night was a blast! We saw many families during our Melba night and were able to raise money for our school. It was great to bring our community together! We are hoping to do this event again next year!

Hat Day

We had our first Hat Day in October. Students and teachers had fun seeing and wearing their hats during the school day. We were able to raise $224 on our first day! Our next Hat Day will be on November 19th!

Texas Roadhouse Rolls

Thank you to all of those who either bought or helped to sell Texas Roadhouse Rolls. Families will need to pick up the "dough" to deliver out on Thursday, November 19th at 6:00pm in front of the elementary school.

Thank you for all of your support this year. Our Melba community is amazing! Go Mustangs!

We would like to say a big thank you to Wendell Holton for donating over 50 pumpkins to our school this year. Our third graders loved them and made great use of the pumpkins by decorating them for our annual Halloween Hallway Decorating contest!

We would also like to thank the Melba Rebekah's Lodge for continuing the annual tradition of donating a personal dictionary for every third grade student. Our students were so excited to see how many different resources are located within the dictionary. They were extremely fascinated with the longest word in the English language and had fun trying to pronounce it to their peers. Thank you Melba Rebekah's Lodge!

Mustangs SHINE!

This month we moved to the "H" in SHINE. The "H" stands for has respect. Students have been focusing on what respect means and what types of ways they can demonstrate respect. When students or classes are caught demonstrating respect, they earn a star for their grade level. The grade level that earned the highest amount of stars for the month had the opportunity to make their grade level teachers develop a lip sync to share with the entire school! Yes, we got our teachers singing and dancing! The grade level earning the most stars by showing responsibility was Sixth Grade! Way to go!

October Mustangs of the Month

Each month, every teacher will be nominating a student that demonstrated the qualities of SHINE! Here are the students that were very respectful for the month of October:

Kindergarten- Max O., Annelies D.

First Grade- Luke C., Macie S., Ryann S.
