St. Louis Hosts Seminar on Special Education Rights for Parents
SLS is hosting a free seminar on Special Education Rights on Tuesday, October 3, from 6-7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Presenting will be special education attorney Thomas Blessing. Much of what Mr. Blessing deals with pertains to public schools, but he also wants to address any questions SLS parents may have. To make sure your questions get addressed, he asks that you send them prior to the meeting. You may send questions directly to him at tblessing@hzlegal.com or to Mari Mause, parent advocate, at mari.mause@gmail.com.
"This is a Special Place" Mrs. Frey
SLS Art Teacher, Mrs. Betty Frey, was teaching an art lesson to first grade about guardian angels. She explained guardian angels and then asked students to draw pictures of what they learned. While they were drawing, one of the students very quietly began singing Take and Eat, the communion song she heard that day in church. Within a few minutes the entire class was singing Take and Eat. Mrs. Frey said, "It was a moment I will never forget. This is a special place."
Shorts
Officially students are no longer suppose to wear shorts after October 1, but I checked the 10 day forecast. Even though this weekend will be much cooler, next week is suppose to be warm again. So I am extending the time students may wear shorts through next week, which gets us to Fall Break. After we get back from break, students will no longer be allowed to wear shorts.

Library News--Fall Book Fair
Wow, the fall book fair is over and what a great fair it was!. The book fair sales totaled $3,536.71, our best so far. I decided to take the "cash" reward for the library this time instead of taking it all in Scholastic Dollars. We will receive 25% of our sales, so that is awesome!
I want to thank all the dads who came out for Donuts for Dads, along with all the volunteers. I could not have done it without your help in both the book fair and also the cafeteria with the donuts. Thank you all so very much for the help.
