Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
What is SIDS?
SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) is the unexplained death of an infant, usually during sleep, or a seemingly healthy baby of one year or younger.
Helpful rules to follow
1. Do NOT let your baby sleep on their stomach
2. Keep all soft objects out of the crib to prevent the baby from smothering
Statistics
1. SIDS occurs between 10 p.m. and 10 a.m. with the peak of death at 5 a.m.
2. Babies are undisturbed when they die from SIDS, they are not suffocating or suffering.
