4th Grade SEL Day
February 11th 2022
Students learned meditative practices, learned insights on intrinsic and extrinsic motivations in our lives, and discussed ways to help self regulate their emotions on Friday February 11th. Education is holistic and this morning was an opportunity to help treat students as whole people and encourage them to develop skills that will serve them well in all of life.
Instructional Coach Erik Martinez shared, “the purpose of 4th grade's SEL day was to help students build emotional regulation and problem solving skills. Students engaged in activities that ranged from analyzing short movie clips (The Incredibles and Monsters Inc.) to engaging in interactive read-alouds where they practiced different calming strategies."
He continued, "Fourth grade's SEL day was a result of 4th grade's Learning Lab back in December. During the lab teachers learned about different executive functioning and SEL strategies to help support their students' academic and emotional literacy. Therefore, having an SEL day was the team's way of implementing what they learned and it is something that they hope to consistently target and support across the grade level.”
