Enjoy this three day weekend.

Our first story in Reading Street is Because of Winn Dixie. Some of the students are familar with this story but it is always great to look at it through a different lens. The comprehension strategies that we are using are sequencing and summarizing. They go hand in hand because sequencing helps you summarize.

Our first spelling test will be Sept. 9. Spelling correlates with our stories and since we started school on a Wednesday this test will be on a Wednesday.

The students have been writing about topics they know the most about themselves. This is a great way to learn about each other. Also, they worked with responsibity partners to make their writing better. Ask them to explain these partnerships.

All students started math on Monday and our routines are up and running.

How do the structures and behaviors of living things affect their survival? This is our first essential question for science this year. At the end of this unit the students will adapt ananimal to a different habitat.
