Be sure to ask your family and friends to see if they'd like the chance to put a little extra cash in their wallets, too! Please see the flyer below to see how you have 31 chances to win! Tickets will be coming home in an envelope today!
MAP Growth Standardized Testing
Tomorrow, Wednesday, January 18th, we will be administering the MAP Growth standardized test for Math for all students in grades 2-8. This test is a computer-adapted assessment that helps identify students' ability levels, demonstrate academic growth over time, and provide information for placing students in appropriate instructional programs. Teachers can immediately access the test results, allowing them to evaluate their teaching practices and adjust instructional methods accordingly.
Please be sure your children get a good night's rest and eat a healthy breakfast before the test.
Winter Band & Chorus Concert
Join us this Thursday at 6:30pm in the FAW Gym for our lovely Winter Band and Chorus Concert. Chorus and band members should report to the Music Room and Library, respectively, at 6:00pm dressed in black and white. Our first graders will be performing a couple songs as well. They may wear their Sunday best, and arrive for the concert at 6:15pm.
Second Quarter Ends this Week
Our 2nd quarter ends this Friday, January 20th. Please help your student finish strong! Also, be sure that your parent volunteer hours have been submitted. At this point, you should have completed 12-13 hours to stay on pace to fulfill your 25 hour commitment if you are a Service Scholarship family. https://fatherandrewwhite.org/volunteer-hours-log/
Our Open House (by appointment only) to invite interested new families to visit our wonderful school will be held on Tuesday, January 31st from 3:00 – 5:30pm. We appreciate that our families are the best ambassadors for FAW and your word of mouth about our school is the best PR we have! Please help us get the word out about our next Open House to all prospective family and friends. Great things are happening at Father Andrew White! Note: Admissions for prospective families will open on February 7, 2023.

Catholic Schools Week
Catholic Schools Week starts January 29th. To kick off the weeklong celebration, each of our three parishes will highlight our school at the Masses that weekend. Please sign up your child to speak by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org or by completing THIS ONLINE FORM. We especially still need volunteers for Our Lady's Church and St. Francis Xavier Church.
Out of parish families are cordially invited to share in the liturgical celebration at St. Aloysius (Leonardtown), St. Francis Xavier (Compton), or Our Lady’s (Medley’s Neck). More information and a schedule of all the week’s events will be sent home later.

We're gearing up for our annual Catholic Schools Week celebrations at the end of January! The Home & School Association is planning a rally in the school gym on February 4th at 2:30pm to close out Catholic Schools Week as we celebrate our families. We want to show our basketball teams our support by having all the FAW fans participate in the #FAWwhiteout, where everyone shows up to cheer the teams on in a wave of white! We have specially made t-shirts for the occasion! Please follow the link to order yours and wear it to the games and the rally! Please see the attached flyer for more information.
January is "National Thank You Month" and "National Staying Healthy Month," which, coincidentally, are the two things I covered last week! To stay healthy, we have to do preventative maintenance, and part of that is getting regular check-ups and health exams. January is also a good time to get organized! While reviewing health records at school, I have discovered many students do not have recent health exams on file. In addition to having up to date immunizations, students are also required to have health forms completed and turned in prior to attending FAW. Even if you submitted all forms when your child first started, I urge you to update the health form as often as possible, or at least annually. There is actually only one form, with parts for parent completion (health history questions) and physician completion (health assessment and shot records). It can be found on the nurse's page of the FAW website or directly at this link.
Youth Group News
FAW students participated in the SoMD Roots Project WARM prep this weekend by making posters of encouragement and inspiring placemats. The students will be serving the Project WARM this Friday.
