KEY MOMENTS DERSERVE KUDOS!

This year Dr. Sanko has introduced the concept of KEYS in CRSD. He noted that these keys are critical in the success of our school district and no matter the role, everyone plays a KEY ROLE! To that point, I will be catching KEY WORTHY moments throughout the school year with students and staff. There will be a new addition to our weekly newsletters that will acknowledge someone and their KEY MOMENT that made a difference at HILLCREST!


Audrey Priore received the 1st Key of the year. Audrey has gone above and beyond in welcoming a new student, Sophia. This is Sophia's first year at Hillcrest as she comes to us from Japan. Audrey immediately welcomed Sophia and even worked on resources outside of school to help Sophia transition to a new school!

Message from Transportation re: Bus Updates

Hillcrest Families: Please check HAC this weekend for a bus update that will start on Monday. We had to balance bus numbers for capacity.

FRONT ENTRANCE ACCESS SYSTEM UPDATE

Our front entrance access system is currently back online; but we are still working on some functional aspects of the system. Currently, you are now able to use the buzzer/intercom system to communicate with the office staff. However, they will still need to physically open doors for visitors at the main entrance doorway.


While a bit of an inconvenience on both sides; safety is our top priority and we thank you for your patience during this time.


Once in the Front Office, visitors will sign in as a building guest, show ID, and complete the Raptor identification process to receive a visitor tag. Please always be prepared to show ID.

NO CELL PHONES

We ask that parents/designees refrain from using their cell phones during our active car rider arrival/dismissal times.


This is such a fragile time that we need to ensure that all eyes are watching and no one is distracted.

EMERGENCY DRILLS UPDATE

Within the first 60 days of school, we must conduct emergency drills within our building. These drills help us to practice what we should do in the event of an emergency.


Fire Drills are practiced monthly. During the 1st week of school, we conducted our first Fire Drill for the school year. Students and staff should be commended for the great job of evacuating the building quickly and quietly as well as finding our new fire drill lines following the renovation.


Next week (9/22) we will practice our Shelter-In- Place. This drill is designed to protect our children/staff from weather related emergencies. In late October, we will practice our A.L.I.C.E. Drills for an inside & outside threat. This drill is designed to protect our children/staff in the event an intruder enters the building (inside threat) or intruder on our school grounds (outside threat).


At times, we may have local law enforcement and district security personnel to assist with these drills. This added layer of expertise provides us with useful feedback to continuously improve on our safety/security efforts.


Teachers will continue to review these procedures with students throughout the school year.


If you should report to the school during these drills you will not be able to enter the building. A sign will be posted on the outside door to communicate this. Most drills are fairly brief. We thank you, in advance, for your patience and understanding during this time.

8:50 Arrival for Car Riders/Walkers

This is a reminder that morning supervision does not begin until 8:50 AM. If you are an early bird; we ask that your child remain in the car until 8:50 when staff are on site. We also encourage walkers to refrain from arriving early as well. We want to ensure that all students are supervised when they are on campus. Supervision begins at 8:50.

Car Rider-Dismissal

Dismissal will begin at 3:40 PM for 1st through 6th grade and PM Kindergarten students. All parents who are picking up their children should remain in the car line that outlines the parking lot. (SEE ATTACHMENT) Again, staff will be available to assist your child to your car. PARENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO REMAIN IN THEIR CARS DURING THIS TIME.


Attached are car rider dismissal procedures in more detail. There may be adjustments to our procedures once we see everything goes with our new building.

FAMILY EDUCATIONAL TRIPS-

Attached is the form to be completed for Family Educational Trips. Handwritten letters are accepted, however this form is preferred. Please be sure to submit the form/letter at least ten (10) days prior to your trip, for approval. Please contact Debbie Kunzig, attendance clerk, at dkunzig@crsd.org if you have questions regarding this process.

Did you know that Wednesday is pretzel day? Go to https://hcepto.membershiptoolkit.com/ and order a pretzel for your child for snack on Wednesdays! Order and pay once for the entire school year! First pretzel day is Wed Sept 7!

Art Goes to School of Council Rock is welcoming new members

Join us and become an AGTS Volunteer!

We are welcoming new volunteers for the 2022/23 school year. If you love art and love children, AGTS might be right for you. No experience is necessary. We will provide information on our portfolio of prints, a volunteer handbook and help with preparing art appreciation lessons to present to elementary school children. You can either attend our weekly workshops in September and October, or access our reports on Google Docs to help you prepare. Once you have observe two or three experienced members, you will see that it’s not that hard to engage children in lively discussion of what they see and feel and think about art.

Each volunteer teaches one or two classes per school, a commitment of about two hours a month. We will work with your work from home schedule, so you can step away from your desk to stop in at school for your presentations.

In addition, Art Goes to School of the Delaware Valley provides two optional lectures each year for our continuing education at art sites in the region and two ZOOM lectures by art historians.

Our first meeting will be September 14 at 1:00 PM in the Newtown Township Municipal Building, 100 Municipal Drive (Durham Road), Newtown in community room #1.

CR South Cheerleading Clinic 2022

  • Kindergarten through 8th Grade
  • Date: Saturday, September 24, 2022
  • Time: 9am-12pm
  • Place: Council Rock South (Gym entrance for registration that morning)
  • Cost: $35.00 per cheerleader which includes a tee-shirt
  • Pre-registration requested. (Arrive day of at 8:30am)
  • Walk-ins welcome! (Please come day of 8:15am)
  • *They will also cheer at the home football game with the cheerleaders*
  • Game: Thursday, October 20th. Report at 6:00 at North
  • Please note that only the cheerleaders will get into the game for free
  • Tee-shirts will be handed out on October 20th and may be worn that night.
