Night at the Museum
The students did a fabulous job at the Night a Museum. Thank you to all you parents for your help in writing, practicing and coming up with costumes.
Reading and Grammar
Students review similes and metaphors. This week we learned about adages and proverbs. Students learned about some common adages and their meanings. Then the acted out several adages or proverbs and created fun pictures for the hallway. We also practiced speaking and listening skills working up toward our "Night at the Museum."
Writing
Students worked on writing literary essays this week. The review how to write and introduction and thesis statement. We also review writing topic sentences and supporting details for the body paragraphs.
Math
This week we wrapped up our fraction unit by learning how to subtract mixed numbers with regrouping (renaming as an improper fraction, subtracting, and renaming back to a mixed number) and how to multiply a whole number by a fraction. Students will have a fraction test on Thursday, May 21. You will find a practice test in your child's Friday Folder.

Science
This week in science the students rotated through eight different stations. Each station had an activity that was centered around weathering and erosion. We will begin our unit on waves and information next week.
Social Studies
This week in Social Studies we started our study of the West. Students did a geography challenge to familiarize themselves with the region. We also learned about the expedition of Lewis and Clarke, Yellowstone National Park and silver mining in Colorado. We will be having a test over Ch. 10 and 12 on Wednesday, May 20. There is a review sheet in the Friday folder.

Field Trip to Historic Michiilimackinac and Jack Pine Lumberjack Show
We will be going to Mackinaw City on Friday, May 22. We are leaving right at 8 a.m. and we will be back around 2:45pm. Students will need a sack lunch, a snack and a drink. Students will need to dress for the weather, we are outside most of the day. I also recommend bug spray and sunscreen! There is a snack bar at the Lumberjack Show, students are welcome to bring a few dollars to purchase drinks and snacks.
