The person who invented the first telephone was Alexander Graham Bell in 1876.The classic story of his crying out "Watson, come here! I want to see you!" is a well-known part of American history.[19] Bell was the first to obtain a patent, in 1876, for an "apparatus for transmitting vocal or other sounds telegraphically", after experimenting with many primitive sound transmitters and receivers.
The purpose of the invention was to talk to people from far away.

Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3, 1847 and he lived to be 75 years old. He was a Professor of Vocal Physiology at Boston University. He taught teachers how to instruct deaf mutes to speak. He experimented with the Leon Scott phonautograph in recording the vibrations of speech.
