Inclement Weather- Snow Days, Late Start, and Early Release
SNOW DAYS
If Omaha Public Schools has a snow day. Omaha Virtual School will NOT be in session.
What this means:
- No face to face class sessions
- No online lessons
- Teachers are not "on duty" so response time to emails may be delayed
- No after school or school related activities will occur (LC training, robotics, open art, etc.)
However, students can still work on their coursework at home. :)
LATE START/EARLY RELEASE
The district's plan is to announce the night before a weather event, if there will be a two-hour late start or a two-hour early release if weather is predicted to affect part, but not all of a school day.WHEN OMAHA PUBLIC SCHOOLS announce a 2 hour late start or early dismissal, Omaha Virtual School procedures/schedule are as follows:
2 hour Late start
Elementary School
- ALL K-5th grade students will attend the afternoon session 1-4pm
Middle School
- ALL 6th-8th grade students will attend the afternoon session 12:30-3:30
- ALL 9th-11th grade students will attend the afternoon session 11:30-3:30 (whether it is Tuesday or Wednesday)

HOW WILL YOU KNOW?
OPS would communicate the schedule adjustment by phone call and email, so please be sure your student’s school has your current contact information on file. Please do not block calls or emails from OPS, as you may miss important messages in the future.
MAP Testing
MAP Testing is a district formative assessment that we use to inform our instruction with each student. It is a requirement of OVS that all learners participate in MAP testing. For this session only, Kindergarten through 9th graders will be taking the assessment. You will need to sign up for 2 sessions; one on Thursday January 16, and on on Thursday January 23.

What do students need to bring?
Learners will need to bring their fully charged school computer, computer charger, headphones, and mouse.
Penny Wars
Each year, Mr. Gamble takes part in the Polar Plunge, which is in support of the Special Olympics of Nebraska. This year, he has convinced the entire K-5 team and Mrs. Nommensen to join him.
We would like to support his fundraiser with money raised by a Penny War!
Bring your bills and coins and to your face-to-face session January 14-February 5.
If you didn't do the Penny War last year, this is how it works:
- Pennies and bills are positive points, put them in the jar for your class.
- Silver coins are negative points, so put those in the jar for another class.
