Pirate Parent Post Winter Edition

Students Are At The Center Of All That We Do

Dear Families,

Happy New Year!

This year my greatest hope is to bring your children back to physical school. I miss the students terribly and can't wait to talk, play and learn with them once again. But I also want you to remember that you are, and always will be, your child's first teacher. We will always be here to do our part--to do everything in our power to provide a robust education for your child. But more than ever, we need you. Over the years, we have come to know we can rely on you to make sure your child comes to school on time, fed, clean, well-rested, and with completed homework in hand. We have welcomed your involvement in school activities, your desire to help in classrooms, your attendance at special events. During distance learning we need you as partners on an even deeper level--as partners in learning, with us doing it together as a team.

I am proud of what our students are doing on a daily basis. This is HARD work but they are sticking with it! This is truly a season to build resiliency.

Thank you for supporting the learning opportunities that we provide. We will continue to explore what works and will apply our best knowledge to build your child's social, emotional, and academic skills.

I am grateful to you, our parents and to our amazing teachers and staff. You all work extremely hard every day.

Let's continue to do the hard work for our children.

With Respect,

Teresa Scherpinski

Growth Mindset is the belief that no matter our start point we can improve!

Encourage A Growth Mindset At Home

*Model a growth mindset in your actions at home.

• Encourage effort and perseverance over fixed

traits, such as intelligence and raw talent.
• Help your child to actively solve problems instead

of reacting to problems.
• Give feedback without criticism and judgment.
• Choose specific actions to praise.
• Help your child develop goals in his everyday life

• Provide opportunities for your child to be

• Emphasize your child’s ability to grow in all things.
