Parent/Teacher Conferences 11/16-11/20-You have received a link for "Sign Up Genius" from your child's teacher.

At your conference:

  • Share your child's strengths and needs
  • Share goals you have
  • Share your concerns
  • Let the teachers know how they can support you and your students during Distance Learning

Dear Families,

One of the best ways I know to support each other during distance learning is to communicate. If you child is confused about an assignment, doesn't have materials needed, or is having a hard day. have them set up a time to talk with their teacher (if they are in the primary grades you can be their advocate). If you have a question for the teacher please email them to set up a phone call or a Meet. It is difficult for teachers to respond during the times they are working with students so please do not expect an immediate response. But they will respond to you within 48 hours. Teachers need to focus on the students and students need to focus on the learning so PLEASE do not ask questions on the screen during Meets or small group instruction. If you need a more immediate response please contact me. I am available every day to talk with you. I will help with anything I can. Let's work together to keep our learning community strong and give each other the support we need to make it through this difficult time.

With Respect,

Teresa Scherpinski

Please encourage your students to keep their cameras on during live instruction.

The Principles of Well-Being

Distance Learning is NOT easy! We are social beings. We are connected. The African proverb It takes a village to raise a child is true. But even in the best of times, the village can be complicated. We can get angry and frustrated with each other. We can feel alienated or not supported by others in our community. And still, our young people are remarkably resilient. And we are too! We are going to figure this out. We will rebuild our villages by strengthening our connection, community ties, and commitments to each other. We must cherish and maintain our relationships with each other to keep our children safe and healthy. We are, and will continue to grow at being , the teachers, parent, and role models our children need us to be (adapted from "The Distance Learning Playbook For Parents").

Spreckels School Service---Donate to the Food Bank

In lieu of our annual food drive that we donate to the local food bank please consider a monetary donation. I suggest your students may even donate a portion of their allowance or birthday money to show their service to our community and to those who are in great need.

You can donate online or mail to P.O. Box 3965, Salinas, Ca. 93912

For the month of November we are collecting Thanksgiving cards to send to Meals On Wheels. When they deliver Thanksgiving Meals to seniors they will include a card from us!

Please encourage your children to make cards and drop them off in the box on the front steps. I will deliver the cards to Meals On Wheels November. 23rd.

All 1st-5th grade students can read and quiz on Accelerated Reader books. If you want to check on eligible books click on the above link.

Teachers in 1st-5th grade are setting goals with their students. We want all students to find a LOVE of reading and this encourages them to READ!

All students can enjoy reaching their personal goals and some will also reach the status of Million Word Reader!

This Fall our Book Fair is online! We wish we were in person to host this annual event but this is still a great opportunity to purchase books for your students!

If you are interested in hosting/teaching students in an afterschool virtual club format please let me know. We are looking for novel ways to get students some much needed social time. So would you be interested in teaching a craft? Sharing a hobby? Starting a club? Or?????

Please let me know if you are interested.
