Community Newsletter -- September 15th, 2023
A Message from Mr. Kosal:
MMS is All Heart!
The game will take place at Mooresville High School and begins at 6:00pm; the cost is $5 per person. With that in mind, here's a quick reminder about the protocols now in effect for any football game at MHS stadium:
All elementary, intermediate, and middle school students WILL NOT be allowed entrance to a home football game without a supervising adult. Students must be supervised throughout the game.
If any elementary, intermediate, or middle school student is unsupervised at the game, they are subject to removal from the game. The student’s parent/guardian will be contacted to come pick them up.
Both MMS and SBMS administrators will be on duty to monitor student (and fan) behavior. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be allowed.
No bags will be allowed except medical and diaper bags, as well as clear stadium bags. Medical, diaper bags, and clear stadium bags will be subject to search.
Walk through metal detectors will be utilized. If the detector goes off during your pass-through, we ask for your cooperation as we investigate what triggered the detector.
For safety reasons, standing outside of the fence to watch the game is prohibited.
New parking protocols at MHS this year: people who utilize the lot behind the Magnolia Annex (boosters and people with a handicap parking placard) will need to enter and exit that lot from the entrance on Edgemoor Drive (behind the baseball field), NOT from Magnolia Street.
Finally, as Mr. Kosal has been telling students on the announcements each morning, this game will be hard-fought, it will be competitive, it will be fun, but Red Imps will also show respect and sportsmanship for our fellow MGSD community members. SBMS may be our cross-town rival BUT we are all ONE MOORESVILLE and soon students from both school will unite as Blue Devils. #WeAreMOORESVILLE
Please remind your Red Imps of good conduct and how to show the MMS #AllHeart at all times. Thank you to everyone for your patience and cooperation, and we'll see you at the game!

World's Finest Chocolate Bar - MMS school fundraiser
LET’S GET INVOLVED! For the second straight year, our school is sponsoring a World’s Finest Chocolate $1.00 Bar Fundraiser to support students and staff at MMS. Parents, you could help us by selling boxes of chocolate at work, in your neighborhood, and at any functions you attend (for safety reasons, we ask that students do not go door to-door selling). All money has to be turned in no later than September 26th to be eligible for awards. Click here for more details; an informational flyer was distributed to all students during Homeroom on Friday, 8/18/23. Here's an outline of the prizes that students can win for selling chocolate:
Money Turn-In Days (8/28, 9/5, 9/11, 9/18, and 9/22): each box sold allows students to potentially win a prize including various gift cards!
NOTE: students should not be selling candy during the school day. It is a distraction in the classroom and items can get damaged / stolen, making the child responsible.
Thank you so much for your support of MMS students and staff!

* forms due by 9/15/23 *
MGSD Mental Health Family Night - 9/19
from 6:30pm to 7:30pm in the media center of Selma Burke Middle School.
The focus of this parent night will be suicide prevention in honor of Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month. We will once again have a panel of community providers answering questions around mental health.
Please reach out to a school counselor if you have any questions - thank you!
MMS School Picture Day is coming soon!
Mark your calendars: MMS school picture days are planned for September 26th & 27th. These pictures are taken for our school yearbook and also are available for parents to buy online.
All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will have their picture taken during Social Studies class on one of the two days. Pictures will then available for purchase online.

MMS athletics this week:
Mooresville Middle School's fall sports season is underway! Here are some things all parents and spectators need to know:
- When attending any MMS athletic event (home or away) you will only be admitted with a clear bag, including diaper bags.
- When attending football games you will go through a security checkpoint. Please be patient as it will take some time to wand everyone so all our safe.
- MMS is a tobacco-free, vape-free, alcohol-free, and drug-free school. Spectators that cannot follow those guidelines will be asked to leave our campus.
- Admission to all sporting events (home and away) will be $5.00 for adults and students this year.
- Punch cards will be on sale at our home games for $40 each. This punch card will allow 10 admissions to home games... a $10 saving! Punch cards can be used for any home athletic event this school year.
Next week's home sporting events are:
- Monday, September 18 -- girls Tennis vs. North Davie
- Tuesday, September 19 - Football vs. Selma Burke (6:00pm @ Mooresville High Stadium)
- Thursday, September 21 -- softball vs. Selma Burke
* Note: punch cards may NOT be used at the SBMS football game at MHS stadium (Selma Burke is the home team, not MMS)
** Note: per MHS policy, all elementary, intermediate, and middle school students WILL NOT be allowed entrance to a home football game without a supervising adult. Students must be supervised throughout the game.
As Mr. Kosal reminds students on the announcements, MMS wants to beat SBMSfor sure, but #WeAreMOORESVILLE and we'll all be Blue Devils united soon enough. Respect and sportsmanship will be the expectation for students and parents alike at next Tuesday's game.
Upcoming Winter Sports Tryouts @ MMS:

How to alert MMS of a student absence:
The email address for parents to alert MMS about student absences is: MMSAttendance@MGSD.k12.nc.us
Parents can upload doctor's notes as well. We hope this process will be easier on everyone instead of sending a note with the student that can get lost easily!
