Make sure your voice is heard April 2
Please remember to vote April 2. On the ballot is an important issue that affects Springfield Public Schools students and staff. Voters will decide on Proposition S, which will fund 39 high-priority projects, including secure entrances at 31 schools, renovation or reconstruction of six schools, and the addition of preschool classrooms.
You are eligible to vote on Proposition S if you are a registered voter and live in the SPS attendance area even if you do not reside within the Springfield city limits. Just remember, if you pay taxes toward SPS you may vote on school issues like school board elections or bond and levy proposals.
Here is how SPS schools will benefit from Proposition SPS:
ยท Secure entrances will be built at 31 schools
Renovation at Sunshine and Williams elementary schools and Hillcrest High School will address accessibility and security challenges, in addition to other improvements.
New schools will be constructed for Boyd and Delaware elementary schools and Jarrett Middle School, fixing all security and accessibility issues.
New storm shelters will be added to Boyd, Delaware, Williams and Sunshine elementary schools, Jarrett Middle School and the southwest early childhood center.
Classroom space will be added to expand preschool services in the district.

Backpack Food Program- Message from the Coordinator Jill Trotman
I just wanted to let you know about the donors for our weekly backpack program that provides supplemental food for students on the weekends. Without these two organizations, our program would not be able to serve as many students. We currently serve 10 students. In the past we have served up to 25!
High Street Church generously supplies the bulk of the food for our program. They not only provide it, but they deliver it! They will supply bags for as many students as we need.
For the past few years, the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market on Republic and Golden has given DHE $500 for our backpack program. This money is used to supplement the food bags from High Street. Our PTA committee shops for healthy additions for the bags each week. Because of this extra money from Wal-Mart, we are able to put fresh apples, bananas, oranges and other healthy items in the bags for students.
Additionally, the PTA provides funds for our program each year. We appreciate all of the parents and staff who are members of the PTA. Thank you to the PTA for supporting our program!
