3rd Grade Road Trip News
April 8-12
Family Focus!
We have so many parents ask us weekly what they can do to help their children at home become even better at math than they already are. Well let me tell you how you can help:
Daily the students have a warm up. You can see a picture of the warm up below. They come in and do addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division as well as other problems that spiral from the beginning of the year. This is also something they can do at home. Below you can see a blank warm up and a completed student warm up. Hopefully this helps!
SPELLING
*You can also find their words in their planner written to the side each week.*
Principle: Students will spell high frequency words.
Spelling Words: memory, tardy, valley, country, berry, beautiful, aren't, won't, heard, fight
Click on the link below for a menu of activities you can do at home with spelling words. Make sure that they aren’t just memorizing words. They also need to think of other words that have the same pattern or rule. They will be given words on the test they have not seen before but follow the same pattern.
*For each activity done at home that is turned in to your reading teacher, you will get one star on your chart. :)

A message from the Reading Teachers!
Every week books are going home with your child that is on their reading level. These are brand new books we just received a few months ago and honestly we are loving them. They have great lessons that go along with them and the stories themselves are GREAT! I actually learned something myself today while reading a story with my group about chocolate.
The books should be going home nightly and coming back every single day. The students know what days their group will be reading with us but there are also days that we have to switch things up due to testing, assemblies, etc. Can you please help us by making sure that they are bringing it back to school every day? It should be in a zip-lock baggie to help protect them since they are paperback.
Also, attached below is the bookmarks that will be coming home with your child starting this week. We have many parents that want to help their children comprehend what they are reading and this will hopefully be a great tool to do just that. They will have the bookmark for their specific reading level. You can ask the question stems on the bookmark to your child and have them answer them either to you or on paper. These can be used for books we don't assign to them as well. Another thing I have been telling the students to do is practice their fluency. Set a timer and read a few pages. Then set the timer again and try to beat their 1st time. BUT the key is not to lose their expressive voice and end up sounding like a robot. :)
We hope that these things will help you in assisting your children to become even better readers than they already are!
