Sick Children
With the colder temperatures upon us, we will likely see an increase in illnesses here at OPES. Please help us keep the school as healthy as possible this season. Here are some things that can help:
- Handwashing - proper handwashing is the number one way to decrease the spread of germs. Please work with your child to make sure that they are learning the correct way to clean their hands.
- Please keep your child home if they are sick. SC DHEC (York County Health Department) has developed a list of health conditions and illnesses that could require a student to miss school. They include, but are not limited to: fever greater than 100, rapidly spreading rash, draining sores that cannot be covered, severe vomiting, diarrhea, pink eye, flu-like symptoms, head lice and ringworm that can’t be covered. For a complete School Exclusion List, go to www.scdhec.gov.
- If your child has a fever, SC DHEC requires that they must be fever-free without medication for 24 hours before they can return to school.
- If your child is sick and stays home from school, it is helpful to include on the school excuse why your child stayed home. For instance, if you child stayed home because of the flu, this would be helpful in tracking outbreaks and know when special cleaners may be needed in the classroom.
Navigate flu and germ season with these tactics for prevention and care.
