Architecture
Greek architecture is known for its columns. There are three types of columns: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. Other types of Greek art include pottery, sculptures, and paintings. Every city-state had a temple that was dedicated to a specific god. They went there to worship and make sacrifices. Some leaders like Pericles and Alexander the Great spread the Greek architecture throughout Europe.
We see Greek influence in architecture today in important buildings. The White House, Capital Building, Supreme Court and the Lincoln Memorial all have columns that show Greek influence.
Government
In their government they mainly focus on Direct Democracy and everyone could say what they wanted to say and they could all vote. They chose their council by lottery drawling and also were limited to lyr. service. You had to be 18 or older to vote. You were expected to vote to participate in government. If you got elected you were only allowed to be governor for 1 year only. The leaders of government were chosen from a hat which is a type of lottery they used to draw the votes from. Yes there was slaves and slavery in ancient Greece The wars that occurred in ancient Greece was the Peloponnesian War and the Persian War.
Some things that we still use today that Greece influenced was you have to be 18 to vote. We also have a democracy. We have term limits.(president holds office 4 years. He is limited to 2 terms.)
Sports
If you wanted to play sports in ancient Greece it could only be men you had to be independent, free and you couldn't be married. Some sports they played were Javelin, Discus, Pentathelon, wrestling, running, chariot racing, boxing, and Equestrian events and lots more. If you wanted to watch sports in Greece any men or gods, and also unmarried women. They liked the athletes so much they gave them free meals, they had parades and they also had statues made of them.
Some ways ancient Greece influenced us today with there sports is we have the Olympics. We have most of the same sports.(Example: boxing, wrestling, Discus, etc...)
Mythology
People in ancient Greece used the characteristics in the story to help explain natural occurrences. (Zeus-lighting, seasons-Demeter Persephone) Some mythological heroes in ancient Greece were Odyeseus, Hercules, Perseus, Achilles, etc... Some ancient gods were Zeus, Hera, Athena, Poseidon, Hermes, Hephaestus, Ares, Aphodite, Diorys, Hades, Apollo, etc... People that wrote mythology were Homer, Aesop. (Apollo Dorus) When you died according to ancient Greeks when people died they went to the underworld where they were judged.
Some things ancient Greece culture reflected are we still study mythology. We still tell myths. We make movies of them like Hercules, Percy Jackson, etc...
Philosophy
Some philosophers in ancient Greece were Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Euclid, Pythagorus, Hippocrates, Archimedes, Herodotus, etc... Some inventions Archimedes had was PI and other war machines. Pythagorus invented therom. Hippocrates ideas were in medicine and also made the Hippocratic oath. Euclid discoveries were in geology. One book Plato wrote was The Republic. Important questions they answered were questions in science, medicine, mathematics, etc... They were treated horribly because they were afraid of them because they made the people their government. Socrates was executed because they thought he was commiting treason.
We still see drs. using the Hippocratic Oath. Things we still used that ancient Greece influenced was math skills today like PI, pythagoream thereom, and still study geometry.
