Youth & Government Delegates Tour the Statehouse
By: Alexis Lewis, YG President
The Graham High School Youth & Government (YG) delegation is taking bounds and leaps in their strive to attend the conference for a second time in March, 2019. Alongside fundraisers to help abate the immense price of attending the conference, generous donors have graciously contributed to Youth & Government. The YG students would like to recognize the following individuals and businesses and their amazing donations:
X- Cel Feeds
Midge Audio
Zirkle Farms
Steve Prince Farms
Ward Construction
Darby Dental
Forgotten Creek Farm
Maurice Farms
Henderson Land Investment Company
Carrie’s Studio of Style
Peoples Savings Bank
Nanette's Concessions, Catering, and Desserts.
The YG students thank you for your generous donations!
YG is a YMCA program that enhances the development of knowledge in areas of democracy, legislative proceedings, and law. The GHS YG delegation has participated in conferences, meetings, etc. and have recently taken a trip to the Ohio Statehouse. The tour offered interesting history of the building, alongside fun facts and fascinating pieces of artwork. YG students are working hard on finalizing their bills for the March conference and are looking forward to another fun adventure with Youth & Government!

John Hopkins Engineering Innovation Summer Program
The Johns Hopkins Engineering Innovation Summer (EI) Program will be held at Clark State Community Collegein Springfield, OH. We are asking that you share the information below with students interested in math, science, and engineering.
EI is the summer version of a course offered to first year engineering majors at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). The semester-long course has been condensed into four or five weeks. During the program, students complete lab activities in computer, chemical, electrical, computer, civil, mechanical engineering, and materials science. Course materials, including labs and sample quizzes, can be viewed here. Students who earn an A or B in the class receive three college credits from JHU.
This is a great opportunity for students to try college engineering while still in high school. They can decide if they want to pursue an engineering major and which field is of the most interest to them.
Students applying to EI at Clarks State may request a waiver for the application fee. Need-based full and partial scholarships are available for commuting students. Students interested in receiving financial aid should apply early.
Below is a link to a video in which past EI students and faculty talk about the program: https://ei.jhu.edu/engineering-overview-video/.
This course is rigorous, and students must have As and Bs in their high school math and science classes. They also must have taken the following subjects to be eligible to apply:
· Algebra II
· Physics or Chemistry
· Trigonometry, or have learned to use the trig functions – up through the application of the laws of sines and cosines to resolve non-right angle triangles in another math course
· Most students are rising Juniors and Seniors in high school
Important Dates: · EI Course: June 24 – July 19, 2019, Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm · Online Application Available: December 15, 2018 · First Deadline: February 15, 2019 · Financial Aid Priority Deadline: March 15, 2019 · Final Deadline: June 1, 2019 Please discuss this opportunity with your students who may be interested in learning more about engineering. We would be happy to email you an information flyer to share with your students. If you are interested, please let us know by sending an email to ei@jhu.edu. For more information please visit our website: https://ei.jhu.edu/. Please share the Engineering Innovation video with your students:
