From Mrs. Younce
We will take the Unit 3 math assessment tomorrow (Tuesday). The rest of the week will include reviewing any skills that students missed on the assessment and then continued work on those word problems/performance tasks. Last week we worked on finding words in the word problems that help us know what mathematical operation to perform. Students are getting better at this, but we are realizing how tricky of a task this can be.
Social Studies Update
We are continuing to look at the different regions of the state. We will compare two of the regions this week.
From Mrs. Johnson
Reading: Students are continuing their work in our Journeys Readers Workshop, which will finish up the second week after break. We continue to look for new vocabulary words in our individual novels and have been practicing our dictionary skills to find the definitions. This week we will also focus on different strategies students can use to summarize a fiction text.
Writing: We are making progress in our opinion writing unit. Students have selected their opinion essay topics/issues and constructed an initial outline to plan their essay. They will begin this week formatting their essay including creating a thesis statement and writing an introduction.
