December 2022

A message from Mr. David Jennings, Principal
To our Maize Central Elementary Families:
We've had an amazing first half of the school year! Our students, staff, and families make our school a great place grow and learn. We hope all of our MCE families are enjoying this holiday season. Along with the holidays, December brings cold weather. It is crucial that each student has a coat at school each day to stay warm when we go outside for recess. It is also important that your child's name is written on the inside of their coat so we can return it to the right owner if it is lost. Many lost coats without names inside them end up in our lost and found and often are never claimed.
The holidays also give us time to consider the things we are grateful for. First, I'd like to show my gratitude and appreciation for our wonderful MCE staff. I am blessed to work with such engaging and dedicated educators. They never fail to go above and beyond for our students. I am also grateful to have a fantastic community of families who are supportive and very giving of their time and talents. Your involvement truly makes a difference and I thank you for all the ways you contribute to our school. We could not do this without you. Finally, I am honored to work with such amazing students. They inspire me with their kindness, hard work, and creativity. I feel privileged to watch their potential unfold each day.
On behalf of all of us at MCE, we want to wish you a safe and wonderful holiday, as well as a Happy New Year, over this much deserved break! Please see below for our Winter Break dates.
See you next year in January!

Capturing Kids' Hearts & Social Emotional Learning
The Maize Central Teachers have seen many benefits to the Capturing Kids’ Hearts Program and Second Step Program in our school. Classroom communities and student relationships grow stronger. This is a result of team building activities, team mentality, and accountability. We all have to do our part to be successful with the social contract. The social contract helps students take responsibility for their actions in and out of school. Last month's character trait was Responsibility, and MCE students learned about ways to be responsible in and out of school. Please click here for the CKH family newsletter about ways to work on this character trait at home as the year 2022 comes to an end and 2023 begins! For the Spanish copy click here.
Capturing Kids Hearts (CKH) is a program designed to change the school-wide culture and promote appropriate behavior, self-reflection, responsibility, and academic growth. Each year CKH recognizes outstanding schools as a National Showcase School. Becoming a National Showcase School is a rigorous selection process that includes measuring key performance indicators, gathering campus data, and surveying parents. The results represent the implementation of CKH processes and the culture and climate at MCE. Please consider completing the attached parent survey to help us receive the prestigious award as a National Showcase School.
