Spotlight On Fourth Grade
Fourth grade has been learning about animal adaptations in science. This focus has been carried across multiple subjects including writing. Students used several sources to research an animal of their choice. They then were able to organize and write a three paragraph report on the animal adaptations they discovered. After completing their report, students used google slides to create a unique presentation about their animal. Students shared their slides with others in their class. This gave students an opportunity to develop speaking and listening skills such as eye contact, respecting others' ideas and opinions, and gaining confidence in front of an audience. Students practiced giving compliments to each other about the design and presentation they created. Through this project about animals, students were challenged to grow in their technology and communication skills.
Read-A-Thon
We are excited to announce that North Elementary is going to be having a Read-A-Thon! This is a wonderful opportunity for us to encourage our students to read more as well as earn some money for our school and fun prizes for your student. The best part about it is, it’s easy.
You can set up your child’s account by going to www.read-a-thon.com/readers/ or by scanning the QR code. Enter the code from the reader’s sheet. Your child will get a prize just for setting up the account. Then friends and family from all over can make donations to your child online. Your child earns prizes for donations that are made. We will also have an extra recess for the class with the highest participation. We will have all the reading sessions here at school, but you can encourage your child to read more at home during this time as well. The Read-A-Thon will end on March 9.
The money earned from the Read-A-Thon will be used to provide books for the summer reading program as well as pay for the end of the year celebration for students that make their reading goal on the I-Ready assessment.
If you have any questions or concerns please let us know. Thank you for supporting our school and helping our students become better readers!

For the month of February, we will focus on good study habits and test-taking skills. We will concentrate on listening skills and prepare for standardized testing coming up in April and May.

Notice from our Nurse
February is Dental Awareness Month. It is extremely important to make sure your child has regular dental check-ups every 6 months, brushes well twice a day, and limit sugar intake. If you need assistance finding a dentist, please contact me. Please encourage your child to eat a healthy breakfast every morning, whether it be at home or at school. If they
skip breakfast, please allow them to bring a mid-morning snack; otherwise, they will have to wait until lunch to eat.

Art Remarks
Hello North Families! In the art classroom, we have been hard at work practicing drawing techniques and painting tutorials. Through most of February, we will be using the drawing techniques in preparation for clay and printmaking! The school year is already flying by, so the Spring Art Show will be here before we know it! The Art Show will feature one piece of art from every single student from every elementary school. I will send reminders as it gets closer, and I will also be sending out yearbook forms at the end of February as well. Thanks, wonderful families!
Artfully yours,
Miss Hopson
