STEMTASTIC TESTING EXTRAVAGANZA
Three Birds, One Very Large Stone
"What Test Will My Child Be Taking?"
9th: TSI. Passing the TSI allows students to enroll in dual credit courses through UTPB. Students who have passed the English portion of the TSI will be given the Math TSI. This test is untimed.
10th: PSAT. This is a practice test for sophomores. Their score should be an indicator of what areas they may want to shore up over the course of the next year. This test is timed.
11th: PSAT. For juniors, the PSAT is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT). Students who score highly enough will be named National Merit Semifinalists and be invited to apply to become National Merit Finalists. Many colleges offer extremely generous scholarships to National Merit Semifinalists. This test is only offered once.
12th: SAT. For seniors, the SAT is a college admission entrance exam. Many colleges use the SAT and ACT to evaluate a student's readiness to engage (and be successful) in college coursework. They use the scores to assess college applications. This test may be taken more than once. This test is timed.
